Thank you for doing this video. 48 hrs ago we adopted a 5 year old Pom (retired from breeding) and she was never house trained (breeder said she was used to potty pads). I figured ok, well at least that is a place to start and we shall start working with outside training. Well I have discovered that she is super shy baby and her hearing is acutely tuned in with every sound outside, despite the feeding/potty routine/walk in backyard she likes to relieve herself in one spot in our house when nobody is watching. We bonded faster than I even expected but we have a LONG way to go with all training because she is basically a puppy in that regard. I'm still in observation mode with her but this really helped to understand I will need to think out of the box with this highly sensitive beauty.

I have recently ad opted a BC rescue, they said he was two years , I tend to think he is around 18 months based on puppy characteristics. He looks very much like your Raven, handsome boy! TOBIAS IS REALLY SMART AND I WANT TO DO RIGHT FOR HIM ! COULD YOU TELL THE TYPE HARNESS AND LONG LEASH TO INVEST IN , as to have a GOOD OUT COME! Your videos are Amazing I'm confident that he will be confident as well, Thank you for your service for us humans to be more understanding!!

Very late to this video but I have to share my thoughts 😅😂 I'll hopefully be getting my first border collie soon and ive always worried about them running off or not being able to get them to come back. This video helped a lot with reassuring me and it gave me a lot of important pointers to eventually train my dog recall.

I've had Borders for over thirty years, will never have anything else. But they do need training as a young dog, spoil them - well good luck it has been an experience.

Thank you for this. My one year old King Charles Cav is going in for his right leg knee surgery next week. He has level 4 in both legs. I call him my cowboy due to his bow-legged walk. I really appreciate this, I am so worried about the aftercare.

I've been trying to train my stubborn old beagle basset to grab things with his mouth for a while now and in just a short 3 minutes he grabbed the folded toilet paper roll(he's used to me hiding bigger treats in them and i wanted to use something he was already comfy with) with his ENTIRE mouth. It shocked me! Fantastic video!!!! I hope I can finally play ball with him even if he's getting up in the years :3 This made me super hopeful that we can do more things together.

Just got two new border collie puppies. Both red. One is a lighter brown/red and white. The lighter one has no issues inside. We noticed he has a few issues yesterday when we brought him home and we took him his poop and instead of throwing it away, we put it outside and took him every hour- two hours. He picked up the scent and now knows to go outside. His brother is starting to do the same. They both will whine at the door to warn us. Advice: watch your dogs and if they poop, put it outside or where you want them to go and they will get the scent and go

I know im late, but can you maybe go deeper into gender differences? Like, id love a collie with great recall and who would listen to me steadily, is that easier or more common with one gender or the other

Oh lovely person.. I just now see this and realize perhaps why you stopped filming. You clearly loved that dog so much and my goodness did he love you. I've lost my 13 year old dog on the 8th of February due to him losing feelings in his hind legs over time, to the point he wasn't able anymore and the vet and I decided it was time. He's been my best friend for 13 years and we were never apart. I moved mountains for him and worked from home so I could be with him almost all the time. With how close you are with your dogs, I can imagine we felt similar losing our special friend. I loved that boy more than any human in my life. (not sure if that's healthy but it's true nonetheless haha). I'm so sorry you've lost him. But hearing his stories, seeing his face in the photos.. He has had a fantastic life with you. He couldn't have possibly found a better place than in your home. I hope by now you've slowly were able to heal a bit. Sending you all the love. 🧡

(And I mean the "he couldn't have found a better home" in a "You're such a great person he's lucky to have found his way to you!! - and you've been so lucky to have had him). - the same way I have been so lucky with mine. Even if my dog was anxious and neurotic, had problems that were big and made me adjust life to him fully.. I'd do it all again. He taught me so much. And I worked with him endlessly too. Trainers, behavioral specialists, dog dates, gentle people... Some dogs are truly just the way they are. I could improve him but never "fix" him. And looking back there was nothing to fix. He was perfect the way he was. And I loved him the way he was. His quirky silly self. Life without him now is.. Quiet. There's no other dogs. Just me. Give your other doggos a big hug from me. :)

Your vlogs are incredibly helpful. I noticed you don't post anymore, not on Twitter either.. Wondering if there's anyway to reach out to you with questions if I ever have any with my border collie from the shelter ( If I end up getting him). I'd love your thoughts and advice if needed. You seem lovely and on the same wavelength with training as I am.

I'm reading into bcs because I might be getting a 6 year old from the shelter and want to be as prepared as I can be. (I've had high energy, anxious sensitive dog before, but not a bc). And hearing you talk definitely helped me gain more confidence that I can do this. I've been reading so many ppl say they're too much energy and you can't have them unless you run a farm basically. I can't wait to train him. And getting to know each other.. Thank you! Any advice for when you're getting a bc of a shelter?

This is a great video! My dog doesn't really mouth things and thought it was a target at first, but finally mouthed it. She doesn't grab it, but puts her mouth over it and immediately backs off for the treat. Do you have a recommendation on getting the dog to keep it in their mouth for longer?

Lovely video! I’ve been working on this with my 8 month poodle puppy. He has a natural retrieve and loves to put things in his mouth but I’m struggling to keep him from chewing on the object while it’s in his mouth. He does okay in a retrieve situation where he’s focused on bringing the dumbbell back to me but if I have him take it while he’s stationary he either wants to chew on it with his back teeth, spit it out right away, or walk away with it. Should I just go back to practicing the split second holds or do you have any other advice? Thanks again for explaining things so well!

Thanks for the very informative and thoughtful videos. I am wondering, since these were recorded 5 years ago, if Asha is still with you. Did you have any further difficulties with the parathyroid condition or subsequent problems since their removal? My almost 15 year old Australian shepherd was just diagnosed and I am having to make this very difficult decision of proceeding with this surgery or not, given her age. Just wondering what life possibly looks like some years down the road.

My dogs love there drive, iv got two Border Collies and they like there walk but their drives and visits is more important than the walk .the old dog doesn't get a walk every day because she is so slow and has other issues with age that a walk is not needed everyday, its being out and about that she needs
