With Aeon I don’t have many issues with loud, sudden noises. I raised him in a truck. He’s used to a lot of commotion. Also around heavy equipment and all manner of sounds associated with building and destruction. One thing I might recommend is bringing them to a gun range. They figure out that the big metal stick is really noisy quite rapidly. I would say ready, set, bang!!! He had very little fear after sniffing around and being able to discover what all the noise was caused by. I have to wonder why he sometimes ducks when we go under the bigger concrete bridges. It took me a bit to figure out what he was doing and why. It is quite amusing to watch him duck though.

Aeon sounds really well adjusted. Keegan and my Asha who passed away recently were both very sound sensitive right from the beginning. But now I know more about building confidence in a dog from the start. Even so some dogs are a lot more sensitive than others. I'm still doing some new videos including some sound exercises, should be the next ones I upload.

@@TheDogVlog Aeon was raised around loud noises. In the work setting he does fine. I think he’s prepared. The last few times that there’s been loud noises he’s jumped. I think it is just simply he’s not expecting it he jumps. Then he needs a calming hand. But, he feels a bit vexed that I didn’t warn him. Like the rain. He honestly believes I’m making it rain. The whole look says it all.

That's awesome that you would do the cookie 🍪💥 thing with Skeene! I basically did the same thing with Sally! She was OK with fireworks 💥 and thunderstorms ⚡🌩. If they got too loud, she would get between my legs and look up at me with a "gonna love me?" look on her face.🐶❤ Very interesting story about Keegan too👍. Recall training is so important! So glad he came back to you!😊🐶❤

Luckily it was raining here last night so there was only faint rumbling from far away fireworks. Yes Skene liked the cookie game but couldn't keep that one up after awhile. :) It's nice that Sally looked to you for reassurance.

Your vlogs are incredibly helpful. I noticed you don't post anymore, not on Twitter either.. Wondering if there's anyway to reach out to you with questions if I ever have any with my border collie from the shelter ( If I end up getting him). I'd love your thoughts and advice if needed. You seem lovely and on the same wavelength with training as I am.

Having a new BC puppy this information is very helpful!💚 thanks for sharing 🐾 For my older dog I open the up stairs close and put blankets in there for him, this seems to work and he will come out when its all over. For some reason up stairs is better then down stairs closet

Yes they sometimes seem to find a place they want to be, so better to let them stay where they feel safe.

Thank you sooo much this was helpful. My two jack russell terriers are absolutely terrified of fireworks but the police have said not to shoot them up because something happens in a place called Gjerdrum in Norway so if you search Gjerdrum on google or safari you may find it but there are a lot of animals that have gone missing and there are planes looking for the pets and humans und er all the mud and clay so fireworks can disturb them so that is good and I hope they listen. So that is good for my fury friends.😅

LMAO!!! It’s New Year’s Eve and I was enjoying this video with Aeon. Even posted another brag on how good he is with everything including fireworks. Then the fireworks started and I have a 65 pound bundle of fur on my lap. 🤣🤣 Have a happy new year.

My BC barks continuously and wants to run at fireworks and thunder if in the garden or house, however if we're on a walk and she hears, fireworks or thunder or a shotgun bang, her ears prick up but she's not really that bothered and she stays quiet and carries on walking and sniffing - seems a territorial thing with her.
@TheDogVlog4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I wish we could ask them why they do some of those things.

Are border collies good with kids?
@cephalotus594 жыл бұрын
As with all dogs, it depends. My BC is excellent with kids, but she was born to a household with kids who played with her every day. She loves to meet new kids, but was a bit of a jumper and not all kids liked it. Some BC want to herd kids and can nip ankles to round them up. It's all a matter of training, but in general I would say yes.
@TheDogVlog4 жыл бұрын
I agree that it depends and would add that some have low tolerance for handling so that can be an issue. As well some can resource guard. Supervision is important.

As always your advice has proven utterly reliable and accurate. Aeon is better than ever. Could you help me with a huge discipline issue I’m having with Aeon. He won’t put his toys away. I’ve told him and sometimes he’ll hide them and if I’m vexed he might bring them in with me supervising. Is my dog broken? Should I consider trading him in for a cat? I’m at wits end. You’re my last hope Oh great and wise one.

I have special tug toys that my puppy Raven is only allowed for training. I've caught him climbing up a ladder, getting onto a table and pulling them off a hanger. :) But if Aeon really won't put his toys away maybe he should watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIWon3xrmsproZI
