i also almost got the huginn but it wasnt double edged which is what i wanted for the reasons you were explaining in the video (im assuming you carry the double edge on your chest in a combat situation). the only i place i could find them was ridgerunnerblades but they dont have the double edged
@ouroborosforge844133 минут бұрын
The double edged one is one I rarely do. I make them every once in a while and there was only one on Ridgerunnerblades and it sold immediately. Those are hard to keep around. Also, I would prefer to carry the single edged one because it is more geared towards edc taks, the 2nd edge makes those tasks less comfortable. So you got a more useful knife (in my opinion) than the double edged Huginn

big fan of your work! i just subscribed to your website and KZbin . Im not sure if your taking suggestions at all, but if so, a celtic knife would be awesome! also a cool butcher knife would be awesome! my dad has been a butcher for over 30 years, and i would love to give him a gift. (yes were American Irish lol)

Thank you very much for your support, and I’ll definitely take your suggestion into consideration. It will be some time before I can open up for custom work because it is very busy at the moment, but I hope I again in the future

Can you use ordinary clay or fire cement?
@ouroborosforge84416 ай бұрын
I’m sure actual clay could have some effect, but I don’t think it would be nearly as effective as refractory cement

Thank you for this set of videos on hamon. I find that American videos on cutlery are much more in-depth than those made in Europe and more precisely in France. I've already watched lots of videos on hamon and I'm still learning I am from Belgium. I subscribe 😉

What oil do you use in the end to darken the hamon? And u say that you wax it to? With car paint wax or is there a special wax for bare metal. Thanks
@ouroborosforge84416 ай бұрын
It isn’t oil that darkens the blade. It is a chemical called ferric chloride. I make sure the blade is throughly cleaned and dip it into a 4 to 1 water to ferric mix for about 60 sec.

What sharpening system are you currently using?

For a knife for this I would use the wicked edge pro. That’s the sharpening system I use for all my tactical knives

How do you make sure all parts and area of the sheath get the color
@ouroborosforge84413 жыл бұрын
I ensure that I go over most areas twice and also wait to move onto the next step until the dye is dry, this allows me to inspect each piece prior to seeing to make sure I have full and even coverage

Excellent tip using the ferric chloride before blueing the blade. I never thought of that before.
@ouroborosforge84413 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, yea that was a technique discovered totally by accident. I used to only etch with ferric chloride in my earlier knife builds and they always had really smooth finishes. Then after moving on to sand blasting and bluing I realized, oh shit, I could have just combined the two to get the same effect!
@patricksteele73363 жыл бұрын
Oooooh that came out really well, I gotta try some etching
@ouroborosforge84413 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, yea the ferric chloride etch is nice for depth in Damascus and works the same way with getting rid of the scratches from the sand paper leaving a smooth finish. Super cool and very handy!
