They're great if you rebuild them, could also be the electronic ignition screwed up. My truck has points ignition, brand new distributor for like a 72 D100 I got off RockAuto. These carburetors once rebuilt run great.

@@DeadReckon we rebuilt mine and it still doesn’t run right I can’t figure out why and it might be the ignition screw up because I hit a bump hard enough my truck would shut off and I would have to go wiggle a wire and it was good again

@@Greasy_Rat_garage Yeah sounds like you got electrical gremlins. One of the reasons I got a points distributor for my truck. Here's the part numbers for the distributor and coil I used, the coil is different on points, I don't remember why SKP SKDICH05 STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS UC12

@@Oddball159 Could've overheated wiring, get a test light or power probe and start poking, start at the battery, work your way back. Make sure the ignition solenoid has power and is being triggered by the key, you'll need two people for that unless you got stretchy arms haha.

This was a factory /6 but I swapped in the 318. The A-833 and rear diff have taller gearing 'cause it was a 6 cylinder truck, so it's a riot to drive even though the rear springs are begging to be relieved of duty.

Dealing with crank no start on my '81 W250, manual. Truck has always been reliable with the exception of cold starts after a week which is understandable. It's sat the better part of the last year & upon going to starting it using fresh fuel in the carb nothing. Pulled #1 plug & no spark. Checked my coil have voltage & primary & secondary coils are good.
@DeadReckon
@DeadReckon 2 ай бұрын
The electronic ignition box may be faulty, the only way to really tell since you're not getting spark but are getting coil voltage is to swap it out. I've linked some new ones below, but I've had so many issues with these owning a few of these trucks over the years I just converted my '83 to points ignition. www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,1981,w150+pickup,5.2l+318cid+v8,1099920,ignition,ignition+control+module+(icm),7172

Great cars but the way the valve seats are designed, one of them will almost certainly fail at some point. They still sell refabbed heads for these which correct the issue, must get if you plan on relying on this. Dropped valve seat can cause a lot of damage. They are otherwise really nice cars. My first car was a '99 Escort Wagon.

I dunno,,,too many irritating things wrong with this car...not a bargain for $1 grand...a few years ago, I found a Park Ave, one-owner, with 90,000 miles on it...always garaged, paid $800 bucks for it. It needed a new set of tires, and the AC compressor was no good. But otherwise, it was excellent all the way. Now have 145,000 miles--no problems, and that 3800V6 apparently lasts forever. I guess you enjoy fixing things?

Craft up a template in the shape of the oval the radio fits into but with rectangle hole for normal radio. Then add a tach somewhere for revs. Likely gonna need some higher end speakers than the dandruff paper cracklers thats in the doors now... it will be ghetto fabulous in no time!
