Hello, I’m wondering how you remove the knob for adjusting time so that the lens can be removed from the movement piece.

I have an adjustable ac to dc adapter and I believe it has 6 volts on it would that work on this radio?

They copy Sammy Kay’s arrangement and it’s fine. Don seems a bit more relaxed here but I prefer Kay’s version that got Don his start as a soloist

Song from the 1950s is still applicable today. Funny how times change change, technology changes, taste changes, yet struggle with love stay the same. Augh

hey i got one of these from a 49 pontiac, the light works and the tubes work but theres no sound.

A helpful video; my 49 Chrysler uses that same movement. I found the balance wheel shaft to be very loose, apparently from worn or missing "bearings". It would actually run if carefully held face down. I found a NOS unit on eBay which keeps time nearly perfectly out of the box but I really wanted to make sure and oil it before installation. Now I know what to do, and have a better idea how this unique design works. I also was able to recap the radio & bring it back to life. I like everything to work, and work as designed!

If you put an exacto blade knife down between the spring and the upper pivot you should be able to let a drop of oil run down the side of the blade and take care of that upper Pivot Point

The 539 series isn't even worth that much when they where sold new the cost was in the 100's not 1000's. People that are asking over 2000 for a tester should only be for a curve tracer which is best tester for testing tubes under real working environment. A 539 should be around 900$ restored and calibrated. I own a Hickok 752 a very nice tester and very accurate. I payed 750$ US which is proper price. It can test dual sided tubes very fast just press plate 2 button which makes that a + over the 539.

Great video! But next time don’t do it around any clocks. It was very annoying to hear the clocks.

Nice job! I'm just starting back on one of these; it's getting a native 12V conversion, a Frankenstein's Monster of sorts, using the power transformer from a later Buick Sonomatic set but retaining this because instead of transformer phase inversion it has active phase inversion like a Fender guitar amp in the preamp. That and Bluetooth because not everyone wants to wait for their favorite song to be played on AM!

6SQ7 preamp I take it: Is there a 2nd 6SQ7 for phase inversion? I don't see any autoformer like the vintage Buick radios have so I take it it's using a tube like a 2nd 6SQ7.... ...which is better actually.
@nigefoxx4 жыл бұрын
There is, yes. They also split the two detector stages between the two tubes, meaning there's less crosstalk between the diode plates.

I used to have a 55 Buick. The radio had the same problem with the push buttons. I decided "nevermind" as ling as the tuning knob still worked. It had a wonderful bass tone - fat - probably enhanced by tube microphonics.
