Maybe there is no difference in the SM58. I had the opportunity to test the old SM7B Mexico and the current China. They sound like two different microphones. The Chinese one sounds too bright and emphasizes sibilance too much. It just sounds bad!

Wait, so if say we have the VideoMic NTG, and you want to connect it to the XLR port on the Zoom, and say we're using the VXLR+ (I know VXLR will suffice, but let'ss say hypothetically), is it fine to enable Phantom Power on that XLR port given the VXLR+ will convert phantom power to the plugin power anyway?
@ChrisSpiegl5 күн бұрын
Yes, and then with the Phantom Power (converted to Plugin Power by VXLR+) the VideoMic NTG should turn on by itself.

@@ChrisSpiegl Great thanks Chris!
@itsdannyftw11 күн бұрын
Hey Chris, at 5:14, you said the VideoMic NTG already has battery so doesn't need the power, but if we're not wanting to use the battery, could the Zoom provide power to it?
@ChrisSpiegl5 күн бұрын
That is not correct, the Plugin Power is only used to trigger the auto power on feature of the VideoMic NTG. If you don't want to use the internal battery, you should hook it up via a USB-C cord to a battery brick. But make sure to test that setup. I have had situations where audio may end up with buzzing sounds.

Thank you, very helpfull! Is there a way to delete the "space in beetween clips" in the timeline. Basically the gaps that are not covered by audio, or I have to do that manually? Beacuse I've a lot of hours of audio with on top smaller coverage of videos here and there...
@ChrisSpiegl4 күн бұрын
We've already had the pleasure to discussing this on IG, but for anyone coming here later: 1. Create an adjustment layer 2. cover all the things you want to “pull together” in a track above with the adjustment layer 3. mark each track after each other and pull it into the Adjustment layer. - Important here: when pulling the clips up you can hold “SHIFT” while you are pulling it up, this “locks” the clips position left/right but allows for pulling it up into the adjustment layer 4. Move the tracks back to their original track 5. Do this again with all the other clips that are below. 6. Once you have done this with all the clips below, you can select the adjustment layer. 7. Then right click + Ripple Delete the Adjustment Layer. 8. it all moved together and is nicely pulled together.

Connecting the Lavalier Go is going to work 👍. And the idea about VXLR to Stage system with also works. Just make sure to set the Wireless Go to output a Mono signal (also called Mixdown of the two wireless transmitters).

with this set up, when you listen back to the audio on the camera, can you hear the timecode signal? In other words, do you have to upload the audio to the computer before you are able to seperate the left and right channels?
@oswellwebb28 күн бұрын
I want to be able to listen back to audio of recordings live in the field and am concerned that the high pitch sound of the timecode into the left channel will prevent me from doing this.
@ChrisSpiegl26 күн бұрын
Yes, you would 100% hear this when playing back the video. The only way not to hear are two: 1) get a camera (like the R5C) which have an actual Timecode port. 2) Get a Left/Right-Splitter cable and then listen with headphones only plugged into the one side that has the audio.

I don’t quite understand. Track E (the European version with the recent FW update) can output timecode and it has a mic input and a headphone output which can output the input mic signal on one side and the timecode on other side. Why do you need a splitter cable? That you would need only with Sync E as it has no mic input.
@ChrisSpiegl29 күн бұрын
1) At the time of making this video, it did not support Timecode output. 2) This video demonstrates the Sync E and if you want to record a quality mic instead of the built-in Sync E mic, you need a splitter cable like the one demonstrated. But I was one of the people advocating for the option to have timecode output on the Track E and am delighted they added this option.

yep, mexico one did sound more crisp, less bass resonance, china one sounded more bass resonance, less crisp. normally we go for crisp, so very interesting. Im thiking one its the foam, and two its the acoustics within the mic dome, which again may be related to foam and coatings
