Interesting to point out , Shirley Muldowney in 2017 was quoted on Brittany Force's 2017 performance Championship as "laughable" . ??? Shirley RED LIGHTED against Amato in the 2nd round! Brittany and her Monster team qualified #1 Won the Event and set Low E.T and top speed in the final round all while clenching the Top Fuel Title! I am a huge Muldowney fan and now I am a Brittany fan but Shirley can be a Bi#ch very unbecoming of a Champion meanwhile Brit is a true classy Champ!

BreizhSCULPTURE did Shirley’s daddy hand her a top fuel dragster driving job on a silver platter? Brits did! Shirley made her own way and has no respect for the silver spoon fed Force girls, they didn’t earn it! A few years back at Indy I believe, Shirley was asked what current female driver she was the most impressed with? Erica Enders was her response! I would agree 100%...! Oh yea, I absolutely guarantee you that Brit would not have garnered the stats you boast about if Alan Johnson wasn’t tuning the car, GUARANTEED!!!! All Alan Johnson!!!

@@trailerparkcryptoking5213 I agree also with what you stated. However I was just Comparing the last race of each drivers championship which is when Shirley commented. Hey hands down Shirley is the better driver. She is a 4 time Champ. But as far as the driver performance on that Sunday Shirley red lite and Brit won the the race. Now Shirley never worked on her car either she had Tobler would Shirley have won the 82 Top Fuel title with out him? I'm gonna say probably not. Thank You for your reply I could and do talk about Drag Racing 24/7 I hope 2021 is a Fruitful season for the NHRA and All those involved. Oh yeah Erica Enders is a Bad Ass Driver in any car she drives!

BreizhSCULPTURE Coca Cola dropped the major sponsorship for NHRA. Camping World picked it up. Only caveat is there is a contingency clause stating NHRA must grow their fan base. I have been following the NHRA since 1980 and for at least the last 20 years it’s been falling. Plus the Camping World CEO has publicly stated his hatred for Trump which will turn off some fans, so he stuck a finger in his own eye! About to see a lot of celebrity drivers vanish. Watching millionaires and their kids racing is boring! I attended the 1986 Winternationals in Pomona and the crowd was 100,000+ and it was a huge spectacle. Look at the stands now, half empty.

Is there a reason burnouts were so impressive back then compared to now?
@nicolas2970
@nicolas2970 4 жыл бұрын
The engines are set up very different today. For 1 they now use dual or 2 magnetos also the very important clutch set up is now a 5 or 6 disc and you dont want to put to much heat in it before the run. There are numerous other reasons per crew chief i.e fuel use for weight tire wear ect. John Force is famous for saying "Give us and ol'Chi-Town Burnout". Coming from the Chi-Town Hustler Funny Car team from the early 1980's known for doing big and long burnouts.

Daphne Desrochers the tire compound they’re using now doesn’t produce much smoke. Robert Hight said they’re not made with much rubber anymore. Basically synthetic for safety purposes.

Same year i attended my first national event. Seattle Fall Nationals. Kept doing it with the Winternationals the following year and again three years later along with a good number of other events thru the mid 80's. A great time to be a dragracing fan. The waning years when anyone considered a "low bucker" could even campaign a car at all. Let alone having a realistic shot at winning.

A Cinderella story of 1982..... Frank Hawley, the driver of the legendary Chi-Town Hustler funny car, applied for the driving job THROUGH THE MAIL! The Chi-Town team was primarily running match races and “booked in” shows.... however, the match race booking were becoming few and far between, and promoters were not offering the same money as some of the other names, like “Snake”, Beadle, and the like. I was surprised to see them at a match race at OCIR in mid January, however, they won the event easily, running 6.13, 6.11, and 6.14....and Hawley was clicking off at about 1100 feet out on each run. I said to her girl I was dating at the time… “These guys didn’t come all the way out from Chicago, to go match racing! Watch out for them at Pomona!” Sure enough, they made one qualifying run......one was all they needed. It ran a sizzling 5.86.... .03s under the national record. At that point there after, They were basically running from event to event. At one time they didn’t think they would have the funding.

Gary Beck dominated in 1983. As I remember it, they had a different fuel system than everyone else that was giving them more power. His consistency here was amazing. Qualified at 5.50 secs. then ran 5.58, 5.50, 5.50. Wonder what his first round et was.

Yeah really!!! Now days, these monsters run “Dual Everything”. 2 mags, 2 spark plugs per cylinder (that was Raymond Beadle’s idea), dual fuel pumps (over 160-170 gpm). For a short period of time, Kenny Bernstein and Dale Armstrong actually tried three mags & spark plugs per cylinder, but the motor was thirsty for fuel, it was almost running the tank dry. I honestly believe that the NHRA should go to a basic nitro nostalgia funny car engine package. Fun shit! They always have lots of cars at Famoso for the March Meet. Switch to a modern body...and PRESTO! Not only with the car turned out improve, but the folks that run the nostalgia floppers (with the body change) would even be competitive. Some of the tracks might even be able to match races again… Fun shit!

They don't make cars like this anymore I remember when funny cars looked like real cars. This new stuff they have now it's just not the same. I remember when pro stock had all the brands competing against each other and had carburetors. Now it's nothing but Chevrolet in pro stock now it's just not the same nhra is nothing like what it used to be
