Great vid. Still learning techniques with the club. Started incorporating the club/kettlebell stuff with more traditional workouts. You are right about the Unilateral movements bringing attention to imbalances in the body. Probably a bit of a placebo, but I already feel like my shoulders are more loose and flexible
@Rishi4405 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I think a combination is better. I think some mace/club/kettlebell people neglect too much “traditional” stuff and vice versa. Sometimes I’ll do mace swings with pull-ups in the middle or shoulder presses or something like that. I do think there are some fairly immediate noticeable mobility gains from doing this kind of stuff. I think you’ll notice a lot more changes physically too in a month and a half or so

When you snatch the kettlebell does it hurt you wrist or forearm? or is there a technique to avoid that

There’s technique to avoid that. The key is in learning to slide the fingers along the handle instead of gripping it tightly

Hey Rishi, another great video! Been watching Mark Wildman's steel mace playlist to get a good grasp of using correct form and getting the movements right. I am having a lot of fun with it, never would have gotten into it if not for you!
@Rishi4409 күн бұрын
Love to hear it! Mace and Club training is definitely a lot of fun, for whatever reason it feels like the body is “meant” to move this way. Mark Wildman’s videos are awesome. I love how he deconstructs movements. He also has cool humor in my opinion, “if you do this, you will hit you knee, that is really bad, so don’t do that”

You have the "winter arc" motivation everyday lmao, where do you get this discipline from rishi?
@Rishi4409 күн бұрын
Ummm………honestly, it’s kind of a rule that I’ve made with myself that I will workout no matter what and also put out a video on non Jiu Jitsu days. There are rules that we follow daily when it involves a third party, examples are never being late to work, making it to class on time, getting a certain grade in an exam, not committing crimes etc. But in situations where the rule doesn’t have an “enforcer” so to speak, we don’t treat it with the same level of respect. In my case, with this particular rule about working out and a few rules around diet, I treat them as if it’s a serious offence if I fail to adhere to it, I think of it as an indication that I’m becoming “soft” and/or “weak” and those are things I absolutely do not want to be under any circumstances.

Stay safe! Heard it might get rough. Yeah, the clubs and mace train muscles that aren’t trained very often through “regular” exercises. Also , anytime you do something new, the body has to adapt in ways it hasn’t in the past, which I think creates more soreness

@Rishi44013 күн бұрын
Thank you! If you've never used a club or a mace before, you should start with 10-15 lbs. It doesn't sound like much, but if you've never trained with them, there's a learning curve of understanding the mechanics of it and also because of how the weight is distributed, it feel a lot heavier. Personally, I started with a 7lbs. mace, but 10lbs would be a good starting point too.

Got my club and kettlebell. I can see what you mean about the club being awkward at first, I am going slow and just doing the easy moves that you show. I think I'll have to record myself and watch it back to get the movements right for the shield casts etc. Like you said in the last video, I am enjoying having something novel to work on, its fun!

Awesome! It makes me happy when people try out stuff that I do. I’ve noticed a lot of improvements and been having a lot of fun trying out all these new tools and movements and it’s cool when someone else starts because I think they’ll experience the same feelings that I’ve experienced, which it seems like you’ve begun experiencing already. I highly recommend Mark Wildman’s Heavy Club playlist. He goes very systematically from low complexity to high complexity movements

while kettlebell juggling, how do you get over the fear of the kettlebell maybe accidentally falling on your feet
@Rishi44015 күн бұрын
You just kinda learn over time how the kettlebell behaves and then you get a better idea of where the rest of your body should be to avoid getting hit by it. Practicing a lot and just handling a kettlebell while working out helps build the awareness. After that you just kinda gotta accept “whatever happens, happens…”
