All Meadowlands (except for 20889) and Fairview units don’t got them bc they run to NYC and there are bike rack restrictions in the Lincoln Tunnel. Most of Hilton and Big Tree got them bc they only primarily operate on local routes. Kearny Point got them but idk why since they run them to NYC. But NJT rly doesn’t care abt those restrictions lol.

a bunch of the white backs were operated under Coach USA. NJ Transit gave Coach USA some buses from the 2021 order for them to operate, which came with fully paintable bodies. However Coach USA wouldn’t really need them, so NJ Transit took them back and repainted them into NJT colors.

Fairview got rid of their MCIs upon the arrival of the 2024 New Flyer XD60s. 22039-22054 were returned to Oradell, 22055-22059 were transferred to Meadowlands, 22060-22064 to Washington Township, and 22065-22069 were moved to Egg Harbor.

There's a number of reasons. -Bus could be in the maintenance shop -Driver preference of a non-lav over a lavatory bus - Garage Foreman selects the bus for that bus assignment - Some lavatory buses are used on other routes, in particular Meadowlands garage. On rare occasions a lav bus makes its way on route 559. I would say that NJ Transit kinda fumbled the bag multiple times when it comes to the amount of lavatory MCIs needed on its routes. They gave Trans bridge I believe and certainly Academy has a good number of lavatory buses. We all know full well that Academy likes to use NJ Transit state buses on their charter trips, which they're NOT supposed to use. NJT should have ordered at least 60 or so lavatory buses with the majority of them being in South Jersey on the 550s routes and perhaps routes 313 & 315 respectively. If a driver takes a non lavatory bus on the 319 they'll make a pit stop on one of those service rest areas on the Turnpike at the halfway point of its route for passengers to relieve themselves

i saw lavatory buses on the 159R

@boommc_ Those buses are based at the Meadowlands garage. They do some trips on the 156R, 159, 159R and I believe a couple of trips on the 158 during rush hour. As I've said before, the equipment is given to the driver by the foreman because certain runs of the 159 and 159R route that Meadowlands have are combos which require an MCI. From that combo the driver will do either two to four different routes that requires an MCI.
