When gaming was fun even without online multiplayer. But today, despite new ideas, realistic graphics its not fun enough but more harder and requires you to learn and practice, making it feel more like a lesson than a means of enjoying and refreshing your mind. For those that manage to dedicate the time to learn and remain patient, only they reap the rewards. And the prices have literally gone so high too.

I keep collecting PS1 games, last was a lucky find... Alien Resurrection and Alien Trilogy. PAL, black lable, like new... paid about £50 for both last summer. One of them is fetching triple that now lol. Yesterday I decided to try burning some ps1 games to discs now Ive made room for a CRT TV... 6 discs wasted, no luck lol, something to do with needing to burn them at maximum of 4x speed, none of my writers will burn that slow... Duckstation is okay I guess lol.

I was PC gaming during that time. But it didn’t stop my siblings or cousins and I from renting these systems and some buying one. We always had a blast with PlayStation. N64 was disappointing and even when my sister and my cousin a couple of houses away had one I wasn’t all impressed. Tekken was really cool. Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider 2, MDK, and Soul Reaver all classics I absolutely had on my PC. After finding all the titles released in Japan for the Sega Saturn pulled me in that direction. I love the original PlayStation. And really not a fan of its successors. There are a lot of PlayStation titles accessible for PC and other systems. Sega Saturn had a few. I see what arcade titles and obscure titles that were released in Japan and it really makes it my favorite.

PS1 was a juggernaut back then and easily the dominant force. I had one for a few years and then got an N64 which I loved. Eventually I even got a Saturn as well which I also loved for handful of games Nights, Daytona, Sega Rally, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon II and Radiant Silvergun. Wonderful system the Saturn. My fondest memory on the PS1 was the first Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo I-II , Ridge Rave IV, Wipeout, Wipeout XL and Touring Cars. The Ps1 was part of my gaming for a few years and I'm very fond of it and still play the games. They do look a whole lot better these days however if you run them through Duckstation with internal resolution and the option to sort out wonky textures which the PS1 was all about. In fact I'd say the PS1 has aged very badly in comparison the Saturn

I agree that PS4 was a low point for Sony. Every game in its library I could play on PC with better fps and quality. There were very few games I was interested in. Even Uncharted 4 didn't feel great compared to ps3 ones.

Ps1 was the game changer. Everything after got more boring imo. I was 17 ish when I got the ps1 with resident evil..I went from a mega drive to shitting my pants and never being more excited for games to release such as Re2 and Metal Gear solid. It was the best times to be a gamer. I have a ps5 now and spend what ever little time playing Old games through it, current Turrok 2.

1998 my brother gave me Metal Gear Solid as a Christmas gift and it left me speechless. We normally didn't give each other such expensive things (for 12-13 year olds everything is expensive haha). I'm still very grateful for that gift. One time I forgot to turn off the Playstation before bed time. I went to school the next day with the game still running. When I returned home and put the TV on I found Solid Snake was in the warehouse ventilation shafts all night and all day. I remember I felt as much shame and grief as if Snake was a real person. I told him I was sorry. Please make as much PS1 content as you like Mr. SSG!

@TheSaturatio23 күн бұрын
Well, N64 has not only true 3d gaming, but much better at that regard than PSX, so that cannot be the reason. Of course one can prefer one system or other for their own reasons, but that's actually not true. Also, the diferences between Saturn and PSX on graphics are quite smaill, smaller than PSX and N64, actually, and the main reason most people thing that way is that many many good games in Saturn didn't arreive to overseas and were kept in japan only. I am not saying by any means that Saturn was superior to PSX in 3D graphs, just that the difference is not so big as many think. In my case, I also prefer PSX, event though my fist election in the era was N64, I just had more fun with PSX, but now that I can use my saroo cartdrige to try many many Saturn games, I notices that it has a huge and brillian catalog. Many people do not know that Tomb Raider was launched in Saturn first, that it had Residen Evil or never saw Panzer Dragoon Saga and other games that really are outstanding. So, no matter if you prefer PSX (as I do), I suggest you try to discover Saturn, and I think you will be surprised. (Compare Grandia in PSX and Saturn for instance, and look at the nice Wipeout (and 2) conversion, not as smoth as psx one, but we probably wouldn't have noticed in the time) Also, Capcom and others 2D arcade conversions in Saturn are superb, using the memory expansion. Quite impresive to see those SF3 or Marvel VS Capcom pixel perfect conversions in the era, something not possible in PSX.

Internet connection is one thing that ruined games. That opened the gate for micro-transactions DLC. It also opened the gate for devs to release unfinished games. Modern gaming is no fun. If you think about it, you don't own a game anymore. You just rent it.

A really great video that makes lots of great points. One of the most important points that I don’t hear enough is about people saying to try indie games if you’re sick of soulless AAA titles. Indie titles are almost always rubbish apart from a few breakout hits and even then are no replacement for AA games. I hope AA games like Robocop are a big part of the future of gaming.

*Old games were better because fun and passion drove game development.* Then one day Corporate Vampires took over the industry and drained all of the fun and passion and turned it into a Money Grind. Corporate Vampirism results in such a high turnover rate the teams are producing bad code. Due to high turnover the code becomes a patchwork nightmare that results in the buggy poorly optimized AAA messes we have seen over the past decade. The Corporate Vampirism also kills and sterilizes the company culture. Corporate Vampirism produces rushed development cycles that push projects to be launched well before they are ready. It also causes project scope and direction to change so much that it kills the product in its infancy resulting in cancellations. Game Engine is a huge factor that can make or break a game. When you have a long dev cycle you need to be sure the engine is going to stay the same through the whole dev cycle and not be outdated by the time it releases. Look at how the Frostbite Engine forced on Bioware killed their reputation and games. Frostbite was made for FPS games and not RPG games. Games like Starfield exposed what happens when you have 70+ Teams working on the same game on a busted outdated game engine. Starfield has so many loading screens when most modern games have none at all. The engine caused the same bugs in Starfield that modders had been fixing for over a decade in their previous creation engine games. Ultimately to get back to how things were, they need to have 1 Local Team with low turnover work on a game for 6-10 Years to produce great AAA games without the interference of Corporate Vampires. It needs to be done on a stable and well designed game engine as well. One that won't be outdated by the time the game releases.

It’s a combination of several factors. Games were better made because of the crash of 83 which had an over saturation of poor quality games and too many platforms..is this ringing a bell, I think there are far too many today as well. The later 80s and 90s had the best games. You could argue games were a lot simpler but so was knowledge of programming back then. Games were a lot not a very mainstream pass time, I remember them being quite difficult compared to today, an example is Microsoft Hellbender on windows 95, I remember that game naving no way point, no hand holding, just you have this objective, find it destroy it in a maze of tunnels, never once the dis game crash or stutter, or have FPS drops etc. Game developers and programmers didn’t have the means to release a patch after launch like they do now. It had to be right first time.

And when they happened to be bad, you could actually trust most reviews that warned you not to blow your cash on them. Heck, throughout the 90s and early 2000s you could actually play test games in stores if you still were on the fence. It wasn’t before the intrusion and subsequent streamlining of online services in consoles starting with the 7th generation, as well as the progressive death of local games stores, that those issues began to crop up more and more frequently and that the general quality of games started to really take a nose dive.
