The "thank God this is judo" throw. Otherwise known as the "here take my back and choke me out" throw.

How about the "BJJ moron must comment on every video" throw? The "I can't conceptualize a different sport and ruleset" throw?
@jon72223 ай бұрын
@@ryanwilliams9984 I practice judo. Judo isn't a sport, it's a martial art that can be safely competed in as a sport. My comment is highlighting how the sport has watered down the martial art. It encourages people to do unrealistic things like throw the back of their head into the ground trying to bridge out of throws or sacrifice their position during and after a throw by either over throwing their opponent or throwing them in such a way that they get ippon but end up in a worse position then their opponent. It's trash.

I use this throw a lot and never get my back taken. But I also modify the grips a bit to look more similar to Kouchi Gari. It allows me to fall onto the person more square than with my back towards them
@BigUrielАй бұрын
@@jon7222 There's a bit of truth in that but in this particular case you can do this throw and other makikomis without giving your back, as your oponent goes down you can transition into a pin like ushiro kesa gatame, or if you're quick switch your arm into kesa gatame. They over commit in competition sometimes even roll all the way around and back up and don't worry about pins because it's all about the ippon, but that's not the "technically" correct way to do it. Besides, if this wasn't Judo what would it be? In the context of fighting anyone who isn't a grappler, they don't know how to fall and they've just got the wind knocked out of them, they're not gonna choke you they won't even know what the hell just happened for a good 10 seconds at least. In the context of wrestling or BJJ, they got plenty of their own bad habbits in competition that would not help them in the context of self defense.

Beautiful throw. It seems like the competition variations are quite different to the basic version, it's taught almost like a hip throw, but in this video a lot of them are like an osoto gari done in the opposite direction.

Does it strangle?
@judojudo38088 ай бұрын
Generaly sankaku jime is shimewaza (strangle) technique in judo but this technique has osaekomi (holding) version (we call it sankaku gatame often) when Tori (attacker) holds her or his opponent without strangle effect. You can watch those situations in this compilation. The exception is action nr. 2 (start at 0:26). It is shimewaza (chocke).
