I am so sorry this happened to your beautiful girl and that is daily happening to you. I am so so so sorry. As a mom, I cannot fathom. As a recovering alcoholic, I have severe empathy for her, you and everyone who goes through this. Prayers and love to you.

So sorry for your loss. But you blame everyone but her. I'm a recovered addict and it doesn't work unless the person wants to quit using. No one makes you use. You must change people places and things. It was not the boyfriends fault. It was her choice to pick up the drugs. This is a tragic story and my daughter went through a lot of the things you have mentioned. I had her location on my phone at all times. I went to her house daily. Her boyfriend abused her. But she got caught with meth and her dad called drug court. She was put in jail for 3 months than a program called kpep. Her dad was in drug court in 2001. Being an addict your brain is wired wrong. We use drugs to cope. You're daughter tried. She knew the risks but when you want that instant gratification outweighs the logical mind. If you don't want to quit you won't. There is no heroin anymore it's all fentynal. They put it on cocaine and meth and oxycodone. My daughter has 18 months clean. There are ways to get away from it. Get rid of social media and a new phone. Stay out of neighborhoods. But remember it was her who chose to pick up. After you pick up your choice is gone. I felt that I would be telling your story but I'm lucky. For now.

She didn’t seem to have a mental health issue, dear Mom. Those feelings are part of growing up, nobody has self control and sheer confidence at age 18. You, her family and her were victims of an accidental poisoning. It doesn’t change the loss and pain but be gentle to yourself. I know the pain of losing a child ❤

How can she talk down about the school for not noticing he was taking pills, when she, his mother who lived with him, did not know. I know she is grieving but that is just misplaced anger and trying to shift the blame.

I worked in a prison for almost 3 decades. Unbelievably sad to witness the amount of inmates with drug addictions. Come to prison, get counseling, maintenance medications, education, leave prison and relapse and come right back again. The lucky ones came back if they didn't die on the streets. Heard so many stories of their friends, siblings, parents, partners, dying from drugs and they still couldn't stop. That makes you understand what a powerful hold heroin puts on an individual that they still can't quit. This was gutwrenching to watch these parents. Clearly they loved their daughter and would've done anything to help her, and they did do their best. I hope they take comfort in knowing that there was nothing more they could've done. She was lucky to have them. I pray they always remember her fondly, the good times, but don't let this consume their world. They have each other still and more children to live their best life for. Sending hugs.

I can’t imagine their pain, but you can’t force an addict to get help or work to become sober. Aaron Prager put it so well to his father about one year ago - you only can begin becoming sober, when you take personal responsibility and run out of people to blame. (that is a paraphrase.). And if she was hearing voices, isn’t that schizophrenia?

A very sad story indeed but we have to remember most of those out there are not a case like this. Do we feel extra sorry because a good girl got caught up? Think about the cases who end up drug addicts due to their abusive upbringing. First play escape into a form of mental illness and to get relief from that they start doing drugs. Take away another fact that back then the DEA was raiding doctors' offices for fear they would be helping someone, legally, with opiates, be it for addiction or pain! When that changed the whole doctor-patient relationship the patient couldn't confide anymore and neither did the doctors want them to for fear of losing their license if they wrote the wrong prescription which could have saved lives. Not only were addicts dying then, but people who were in chronic pain were committing suicide because they couldn't get their pain pills all of a sudden. Yes, all of a sudden I said. The doctors would give one more prescription and you were done! Without any assistance, without any referrals, without any help. And then we can talk about the healthcare system if you did get a referral to get help most of the time you got turned down. You can trace this all the way back too bad decisions made by the CDC and others.

Sheriff Cleveland was a sweet and responsible kid. My elderly mother told me he would help her carry in the groceries or mow her lawn for her. Even for a kid to stop and chat for a minute was so kind. He was brave too. I heard that he asked a college girl to go to his senior prom and she said, yes😉

I am so incredibly sorry, what a tragic loss of your beautiful daughter. I do believe these parents are still in denial. They are wanting to place the blame on the bf. The dealers etc. but your daughter chose to do drugs, no one made her. It's a sick epidemic! If she had not gotten the drugs from them, she would of gotten it somewhere else. It's sad but she did have some accountability. Js

If you take drugs don’t blame it on anyone but the users. It’s about choice and obviously drug abuse is a choice so I feel nothing for addiction.
