Hi Ginger, I noticed the position of your hand on the pencil while doing your swatches. It was further up the pencil when applying the Koh I noor - meaning lighter pressure and thus less pigment is applied - and closer to the paper when laying down the Polychromos, resulting in greater pressure and more pigment laydown. Surely this would affect the results that you obtained. Thanks for the review. Liz

Do not apply the wax with a cloth and it won’t smear. Instead rub it on with latex gloves fingers. Then buff with a soft shoeshine brush after a day or two of drying. Repeat two or three coats. Works great for me. Find my work online

I've learned many lessons from using Dorlands repeatedly. I now apply it with just my fingers and dab lightly. It works wonders.

Green is my favorite too, you get a like for that alone. 😃 Would high quality prints help with the degradation of the art work when selling the piece.
@GingerUmali4 ай бұрын
You're so hilarious! You just made my day :) The longevity of the prints depends on the type of paper and the inks your printer uses. It's best that they're of archival quality. I know my local art store uses good quality canvas prints that are meant to stay crisp and clear for a long time ... though I'm not sure of how many years they can last before fading happens.
@mysketchbook34024 ай бұрын
Sorry I was, asking. I'm new to all this. I've just done art for fun or for school. I'm exiting my old career and was hoping to jump into art and supporting my self with it. I know some artist do prints, for affordability and to make more money by selling the same piece as prints several times than just selling it one time. Good video, though it broke my heart that Prismacolor, who people have sworn by, wasn't as professional as their made out to be. Thanks for the info on the prints.
@GingerUmali4 ай бұрын
@@mysketchbook3402 No need to be sorry. You can ask me anything and I'll be happy to share with you what I know. I have a lot of product reviews and tutorials in my channel to help you figure things out. I have a primer that teaches also the basics of what paper to use. It's great that you're venturing out to try something new and potentially satisfying. Art for me is therapeutic. And selling prints, maybe as greeting cards or postcards, is a great way to earn side money too. I've done those and people like it since it's a less expensive way of obtaining my paintings. So go ahead and give it a try. Good luck and have fun!

This is kind of disingenuous. Both process red and apple green are listed as grade V on prismacolor's chart, so they are expected to fade. Their chart is very accurate, you can go with all the I and II with confidence, unlike polychromos chart (where around 27 of the three star pencils are actually a 1 star)

Staedtler is my choice. Staedtler is 100% cruelty free..... no evidence that Stablio is also cruelty free and doesn't test on innocent animals. I encourage people to do research on brands you are supporting because what they do to these animals is absolutely sickening. If you ever need to see what's going on before it comes to the consumer, Google it. You will change your mind. The torture needs to stop. Pass it on

Thank you. I have tried so many different sketchbooks for painting with watercolor and gouache. I thought Moleskin would be the best because of it's reputation but I found that a I really liked Strathmore. The problem with th e paper curling when it got damp was very surprising to me with Moleskin.
@GingerUmali10 ай бұрын
I'm so glad you watched! Thank you. I agree with you. I also thought initially that I'll love Moleskine more because it seemed to me like every artist I know uses it. But now, I have a lot more Strathmore sketchbooks at home. I find that I grab it more often than any other sketchbook I have, including Canson and Stillman & Birn, and other lesser known brands.

Very complete review. I had just bought the Caran D'ache so it was nice to feel good about my purchase. Two things I did not like about the set of 76 was first, several colors were so close that I had trouble distinguishing one from the other. Secondly, I bought the set hoping to use them to detail pan pastels and the light colors just didn't show. Also, I didn't understand how to use the blending sticks.
@GingerUmali10 ай бұрын
Oh wow! Thanks. I'm glad this review was helpful. I agree with you. I also couldn't figure out how to use those blending sticks. They just left scratchy marks on my work. I didn't like them at all. I found that blending with white was better for me in most cases.

Why is Polychromos becoming difficult to obtain? Where do you live? I’m in Europe and the manufacturer has not stopped producing them. On another note Polychromos are an oil pencil whereas Polycolours are wax based so most suited to be compared to Prismacolors in my opinion.

Hello Ginger, I loved your introduction to colored pencils Can you provide a review of Marco Renoir's pencils? I hope so, it's really amazing💖🙏
@GingerUmali Жыл бұрын
Hi NerdRedzu. I'm afraid I couldn't find the Renoir anywhere. It's out of stock in Amazon UK, US, and Canada. They only have the Marco Chroma, which based on the blogs I read, is the better set compared to Renoir and Raffine. Not sure how true those claims are, but I'm open to trying the Chroma and maybe compare it with Castle Arts, which other subscribers have been asking me to review as well. I don't get freebies from these companies, so I need to raise funds to buy the sets first. What do you think? Would you be interested in a Chroma review?
