This is a lovely arrangement for a brass only grouping around this aria. Low key, cast with a pale colored light lyric soprano this creates another vision allowing the brass to become the driving forces. Fun if unusual.

This is every brass player's nightmare gig. If these same five guys were accompanying a 60-voice choir the conductor would tell them they are too damn loud. So they recorded an entire album with a soprano soloist. And they don't overbalance her.

"Bist du bei mir" n'est pas de Johann Sebastian Bach, mais de Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (cf. opéra "Diomedes oder triumphierende Unschuld"). L'arrangement est somptueux et les cuivres sonnent magniquement bien. Bravo.

Bach did not compose Bist du bei Mir. It is an aria by Gottfried Heinrich Stoelzel copied into the Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach, Johann's wife.

Wow, that is an enormous performance

The trumpeter used just about all the embellishments Wynton added when he recorded the piece with Kathleen Battle. (If you want to check, look up Handel's oratorio _Samson_ on IMSLP and find this piece. You'll see the original trumpet part is missing most embellishments except a couple of trills.)
