Thanks for reaching out. You do not need wifi in you garage. The Liftmaster Internat gateway connects to the internet through your wifi router via the Ethernet cable(shown in video). The Liftmaster internet gateway also connects to your garage door opener using myq technology, I show how to do this starting @ around 2 minutes in the video. You will need to download the myq app and follow the instructions outlined in the video.

Thanks for reaching out, no you would not need the physical garage door opener as you would be able to open the garage door with the app. Yes once it is closing/opening you can not stop it using the app, however if you put you foot in front of the sensor or click the physical button in your garage you would be able to stop it.

In very rare cases the internet gateway can loose connection from the internet, I include my front door key on my car keys just in case.
