Oh, you asked. Reaper Miniatures is coming out with one wicked dragon, the 30th Anniversary Dragon. From a Kickstarter (Bones 6) a backers option for now. I'm getting two and planning on painting as this one.

I used the paints shown in the thumbnail. All acrylic paints from P3 and Vallejo paint ranges. Recently started using some AK paints as well which are also great!

It’s all about understanding light and shadows and then just over dramatizing them really :) Perhaps in the future I’ll make a video of how to do this.

What are you using to Air brush the VMC paints. Do you thin and what product do you use in what ratio? This is amazing btw! The layering is just marvellous and creates such organic looking effects. It’s a masterclass

Glad you like it! I thin with water and Vallejo airbrush flow improver usually. The flow improver has a bit of retarder in it so the paint doesn’t dry as much on the tip 😎

I've done this, but with blending. You gotta real nice effect though. What i wonder, is why is the flesh glossy? Was it intentional?

The gloss was just a gloss varnish for protection. Later I applied a matte varnish for the final look

Very nice, I always wondered why most miniature painters rarely integrate any hard cast shadows (as you would get from natural direct sunlight) into their models. I'd imagine the illusion of realism in a miniature would be that much more convincing if the light/shadows were also painted to scale. Keep up the great work!

how did you exactly got rid of the gloss? At 13:50 it suddenly all turned matte

So it was glossy because I applied a gloss varnish to it to prevent me from rubbing any paint off while I was painting, and then later sprayed it with Testors Dullcote via the airbrush to make it matte.

Really nice job! I recently used Blood Rage as a guinea pig for testing Army Painter Speedpaints to see how quickly I could get it done, but I'm a little disappointed I didn't give these models the time they deserved. Out of curiosity how long did it take you to finish the 4 clans? To answer your question, my favorite is the clan leader - using that hot orange for the hair really makes it pop! Love it!

From what I recall I simply looked at the clan’s symbol on their clan card and free handed it as carefully as I could.

This dude does what I do which is get the miniature to a more than acceptable spot then say to myself "let me dial it in a tad bit more"; cuts to hours later still painting the same mini lol

Just came across this, it’s really impressive. Are you gloss varnishing regularly to protect the previous paint work? Do you then paint straight on top of the varnish? Does that ever cause any problems?

Yeah I gloss varnish each section as I complete it and then just keep painting. Never had any issues painting over top it if needed.
