This has to be one of the most under rated movies ever. I have it on DVD and it is one of my favourites. I don't know why, but, to my knowledge, it has never been shown on TV.

Captain Yelland (Actor Kirk Douglas) : This is the captain, I am speaking to every man aboard this ship. In the past few hours many things have happened; rumors of nuclear attacks and a third world war are totally untrue. We have no reason to believe that any aggression has been taken against our homes our families. I believe what we stumbled across is not man-made but a phenomena of nature, one that can't be explained. This phenomena is the storm in which the Nimitz went through less than 18 hours ago, the storm has had some effect on time as we know it, it created a portal, a door into another era. Today is December 7, 1941... I'm sure we are all aware of the significance of this date in this place in history. We are going to fight a battle that was lost before most of you were born. This time, with God's help, its going to be different... Good Luck.

Came back to it this year, after a personal crisis. I think I first saw it nearly 16 to 17 years ago. I'm glad to see that I actively practiced most of the lessons in this film. And I also see how I still need work on other aspects. I guess it just takes us all... A lifetime of practice.

Where is Branford Marsalis clarinet? Is this the version from the movie? the version in the movie the clarinet is more present, here the violin seems to take the partition of the clarinet.

I used to listen to the whole soundtrack in a playlist on KZbin, but it seems that the person deleted all the videos. Until I buy a CD of the score, soundtrack suites will have to do. And I must say, this one is my favorite!

I read this book twice--once in 7th grade and two years later in my freshman year of high school, the same year I watched the film in class. I didn't watch the entire film because I had missed a day or so of school for the remainder of the film from the tail end of the trial onwards. Anyway, I'd later watch the entirety of the film some years later when I was 19, the summer of 2015. It was around that time I had been recovering from a near-death accident when I was mauled by three pit bulls. I was walking my younger sister to school when my neighbor's dogs were roaming around unsupervised the yard (my neighbors at the time were stupid enough to leave their gate open), they came out of their yard---unprovoked, running towards us and by a thread of luck, my sister's classmate's mother came around the corner and my sister jumped into her car and I ran the other way to distract the dogs from not attacking her. I hid in a bush, attempting to run to the car but they caught me and starting attacking me. One nearly ripped off my left thumb and next thing I'm on the ground being mauled at 4 different angles---back of my head, right forearm, right shoulder, and right leg/foot. I managed to fight them off and jump into the car and an ambulance got me to the hospital, and the rest is history. Those of you who have read the book, remember when Jen and Scout were walking home from the Halloween party and that crazy, drunk racist guy attacked them? And Arthur "Boo" Radley saved them and killed that guy? So, in essence, Jem took the fall by helping save his sister Scout, and she went un-injured, but very traumatized. But in the end, the mayor covered up the murder of the town drunk and said that he "fell on his own knife." Therefore, with some obvious differences, it reminded so clearly of how I managed to save my own sister. The point of my story and comment on this is that it brings back so much nostalgia for me. Even though the movie and plot are based on true events, it is one of my all time go-to movies on my list. The film score is one of my favorites by Elmer Bernstein, watching the incredible performance of Gregory Peck (his monologue in the trial was intense but so well delivered---IN ONE TAKE, fun fact) and everything that the movie entails is true artistry.
