I feel it should be mentioned that they are playing the cheapest beginner level guitars you could get back then. It’s amazing they sound as good as they do here. Fortunately, they all had nice Gibson SGs by the time of Monterey and they sounded a lot better!

The band was always way better than the chic singer. PERIOD.

Though Big Brother sounds rough in this video, they went on to get to a high level of musicality while maintaining this very distinct San Francisco sound. If you werent there youll probably never know it. You've got to hear them playing the Avalon Ball Room, and bouncing that big buzz monster off the ceiling. Nothing like it. Very cool to have this video of them at this stage!

My first concert was Janis. I got to meet her, she hugged and kissed me and told me I was cool. I still have the autograph she gave me.

There was no one who could touch the talent Janis had. And no ever will. Simply incredible. She was at her best with Big Brother. My mom saw this incredible band at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
