It’s a beautiful watch and the first I can remember admiring as a kid . I am fortunate to now own a champagne dial and brass bezel with date Seawolf from the late sixties , calibre 70-72 and I love it . The size is perfect and it has an individual style of its own I think . It does seem to need a service though and has a problem in the automatic function not winding the watch , or the hacking working . It works accurately when manually wound but it does sound a bit gritty or perhaps that’s the usual wind on it . I’d appreciate some advice from someone more experienced and knowledgable about the vintage Zodiac Seawolf as I am not at all confident in opening it up and making some irreparable mistake ! Thanks for any advice or suggestions .

A automatic quartz watch , never seen that before 🤔ah well first time for everything great vid Mike 👍👍
@MyRetroWatches4 сағат бұрын
It’s not quartz. The balance is the regulator, if it was quartz then there would be no need for a balance .

I'm interested to know how many of the parts are made with powder metallurgy. Then again, with brass wire electrical discharge machining, i imagine tuning and honing time is brought down significantly.
@MyRetroWatches16 сағат бұрын
Most plates and big parts will be brass but plated. You don’t want to much steel with iron because of magnetism which really effects watches.

I don't really have much interest in the jewelry aspect of watches, but the clockwork has always fascinated me. I'd buy this in a heartbeat with the money. I don't need some diamond studded thing with watch straps made of the skin of a corn fed Indian child.

I bought a clear face Accutron in 1966 from the USAF BX, but quickly decided the normal face version was better as you could actually read the time. In the end, I found that dropping the watch resulted in expensive repairs due to breaking of the tuning fork pawl. Soon the watch was retired.

I love these little Precisions. A few years back you could grab them for around a grand (for one in good nick), which represents huge value. They've shot up since then as the entry Rolex in the market but at 34mm they are obviously too small for most (me included).

Impressive progress in watch production. The finish of the dial, case, and bracelet is wonderful. The proprietary design of the case, the bracelet (with screw fastening) and the clasp, relying on their own historical traditions, are respected. The next big step should be to develop our own reliable and mass-produced watch movement comparable to the NH35A

Hi Mike, I love your videos 😊 Question, I have a few mechanical vintage watches, which I have opened. And it seems to me there is not much difference between a Tissot Seastar 1959 and this Rolex 1959. There sure are now a days, but do you know how much extra “finishing/detaling” there where between the “mainstream” switch brands of 1959…like Tissot, Certina, Omega, Rolex, Longines, Tudor? Br Klaus

As a watch enthusiast with NO budget, thank you AMZWATCH for great-looking mechanical watches that I can afford! their are very clean, classy look, $150 each. I still watch videos about expensive “proper” watches, but I enjoy what I have

Honestly, the screen was cleaner before you took it apart...WHAT THE HELL DO YOU SEE THROUGH THE MICROSCOPE if you leave the screen with garbage right in the center, you can clearly see the MIRTY right in the middle of the screen and you mount it like this...that is, dirtier than it was.. ... And you've heard of WOOD, wooden toothpicks, or soft plastic so you don't chip the screen/glass.... you can also clean the sealing frames with alcohol

The speaker comes out, it has a sealing gasket, move it slightly left and right and it will come out, you will see that it has a groove that has a gasket. this is so that you can better clean the holes where the sound comes out... I have 3 clocks and they sound very loud, they have those clean holes

Hi Mike, I’m not sure how to contact you directly but I wondered if you’d be interested in taking a look at a Emile Pequignet Moon Phase watch, it belong to my grandad who sadly isn’t with us anymore and I’d love to be able to wear it but it currently doesn’t work. Please let me know if you’re interested. Regards, Ashley

Honestly not a elegant movement by any means by todays standards a new rotor movement under 100 quid is much more modernized but ofc just stating the obvious
@MyRetroWatches2 күн бұрын
@@Jay-m2h7x I doubt that. It’s about tolerances and this little old piece will be more accurate now than a factory set NH35. It’s also about quality finishes. There is more to look at inside this one than all the 100s of Seikos and other brands I’ve opened up on and off the channel . Still not a Rolex fan boy but after working on it I can appreciate and feel the better quality in its construction and parts.

Hi Mike excellent vid as always, it's nice to know you are human 😊 and the things that go wrong with all of us amateurs also go wrong with you, could I be a pest please and ask that you pass on some of your techniques such as replacing the balance assembly which I constantly struggle with. Again an excellent vid Mike thanks for posting it.

Thank you. I am not the one to talk about balance staffs. You just need to watch the vintage longines video I made a few months ago!

What absolutely pathetic service! Seiko have absolutely lost the plot with regards to public relations and service in recent years. I thought Japanese people were always keen to save face, but that's obviously not true. They obviously couldn't care less. When an amateur can get the watch working spot-on in good time, why can't Seiko? Well done Mike! Great work, as usual.
@MyRetroWatches2 күн бұрын
Thing is the authorised service centres are about as far away from Japanese culture as it is. Basically independent business with the right accreditation.

On the screw tightening, Alex Hamilton actually covers that in one of his videos, though I can't remember which one. IIRC his suggestion is to tighten until you meet resistance, and then tight by the width of the screw slot (actually, it may have been half the width?). If I can track down the video I'll update the comment

Don’t worry. I’ve been doing this years and never had issues. Like I said in the video (I think) it’s a feel thing. There is no set torque . Over tighten and you snap the head. I’ve done that a few times too.
