Cool, but I am surprised you didn’t speak of using a nose clip,, as getting water up your nose is off putting. A nose clip can really help here .

I'm starting to learn the flip turn but I get water up my nose. I know you're supposed to blow out but sometimes I run out of breath. I'll have to swim more slowly or more efficiently so I get to the wall with more breath. In any case, good video!

That’s exactly my problem. How do I ensure I don’t run out of breadth till I come out of the surface of the water?

Hello , could you please send the link of yellow click board used at .31 ? I just learnt doing standing somersault but can’t find the small boards like the yellow once in this video

Congratulations... You do not need the small boards, you can use any size. The reason for the board is to help maintain the position in the water and use for some leverage. If you do want to use the smaller boards you can find some here -vorgee.com/product/small-kickboard/ Enjoy the journey.

I’ve been practicing my Flip-turns for some time Now. I’ve noticed that I end up too low and I’ll end up either scraping my hand, elbow or even my back on the bottom floor of the pool. I think I might be doing something wrong with my arms???
@aquaticeducation7765
@aquaticeducation7765 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, If you are ending up too low (or angled down) on the get away the likely cause is that you have not rotated enough during the turn/flip. Try playing with the level of rotation and see if that helps.. Happy swimming

Hey Nikita, if you are struggling with your position (or timing) it is to do with the approach and initiation of the turn. This is covered in video 2. It takes some time to become comfortable with being consistent. Good luck.

what's go wrong usually and makes people quit learning the flip turn is when they try it for the first few times, water pressure kicks in their noses due to wrong technique, with horrible feelings, making it unlikely to continue,, I myself was so frustrated, but I didn't give up, once you know how important the arm position is and its movement, and you know the technique, it becomes a little easier... So yes what is hard, is the horrible feeling when pressure gets in the sinuses and nose

Interesting point. Breathing and breathing patterns are a fundamental and base skill. Unfortunately proper breath control is not actively learnt or developed at an early stage for many. When learnt early it integrates into EVERY skill in swimming that we do. 👍

Every time time I do this I end up on my side.
@aquaticeducation7765
@aquaticeducation7765 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Abby, awesome that you are working on your turns. If you end up on your side it is likely that you are 'twisting' or rotating through your shoulders. The steps using the boards helps to control this twisting and help learn the movement of tucking the head and driving the chest toward the knees. N

Thank you for the flip turn progression series. On the very last turn of the video, the corkscrew is performed prior to any kicks on the back. I am confused because the previous turns included several kicks and a goal of not performing the corkscrew too soon. I am hoping you can provide insight regarding the execution of the very last turn. It appears to be counter to all of the information which was provided with the other turns. Thank you.

Gday. Good question. All of the progressions and lead in are about developing good process and control. Every swimmer will be a little different in terms of when they start the kick and the transition / corkscrew on to their front. The reason for staying on the back longer in early progressions is to ensure the focus stays on good body alignment and a 'clean' push from the wall, without complicating the process. As this becomes consistent (and depending on the swimmer, distance, circumstance) then we can start to transition more quickly. The timing of the kick is to optimise propulsion while minimising resistance (especially during the initial push from the wall) so ultimately can come at any point. Our purpose for these videos was noticing most people and teachers rush the process rather than developing good control, orientation and feel so our focus was on highlighting progressions. Hope this helps and you have fun playing with some variations. N

Started swimming because my 11 year old daughter is beating me already. Started practicing tumble / flip turn but I can’t seem to do it. I turn over but i make like a 90 degree turn and my feet never hit the wall. Been trying and trying and just cannot flip correctly. What do I do wrong?

Nice job! If you are not able to complete a full turn it is likely because of turning or twisting through the shoulders. A great way to work on turns and the fundamentals is out of the water. When we are out of the water we can focus on better understand how our body is moving and building base movements. Check out facebook.com/swimnastics/videos/238711013389123/ and watch Kirsten demonstrate an out of water progression that can help when you get back in. Good luck and let us know how you go. Nick
