I wish I would control that filter with expression pedal. I may need different colors on my soloing. I'd prefer that filter as an effect pedal. That would be great.

Can you tell me which knob settings for a GP are you using in this particular song?
@lusithanddevices9 ай бұрын
Omer, who is the person who recorded this, was using the" drive at 11 o clock and blend at around 9." But bear in mind that it also depends on the instrument and amp you use after. His Bass is a Spector (I have no idea how he sets the EQ's on the bass itself nor on his amp).

Can i ask what are the 2 switches for?
@lusithanddevices11 ай бұрын
Brian mentions it on the video. One of the switches is a Passive/Active switch. The other switch is the Peak Resonance Boost on the NFP preamp. On the first units, as it's the case on this video, this was an external switch. This feature is now part of the Filter controls set as a push-pull built in switch.

For those of you that want a similar tone but don’t have the $10,000 (or the three years to wait) for a Wal bass, this video shows a nice, more affordable option to get a similar tone…Spector basses. 😁 Especially with that pedal. The Spectors don’t have the fancy filtering that the Wal basses do, but you CAN get close to that tone with a Spector.

Just my two cents as a filter preamp bass player - filter preamps are super cool, but to get the most out of them, you ideally want a *super* bright pickup. The filter chops off high end by sweeping the cutoff point downward as you turn the knob, so a super bright pickup gives the most total range. Traditional passive J bass pickups are fairly warm to begin with so you lose tonal options at the high end of the knob's range. Alembic style low impedance pickups give you every sound the passive ones do, they just give some extra wiry options too. Probably the closest budget option would be the brightest EMG set.
@lusithanddevices Жыл бұрын
You're not wrong. I wouldn't say necessarily bright pickup. What you would want, ideally, is a flat sounding pickup that can cover the full spectrum of the useable frequency spectrum. It is important that the pickup has its resonant peak outside the filters range. That is what makes ideal to use with a filter preamp. Alembic pickups were designed precisely with that intent and I think that EMG's are a great candidate to use with Filters as perhaps also Alumitones, at least on paper.
@swampede0366 Жыл бұрын
I got these filters about a month ago and I love them! I was originally considering this point exactly. I was going after that alembic spectrum of sounds you get with the low impedance pickups, but I don’t think you can throw an active set of EMG’s in with this preamp because the EMG’s have their own solderless wiring that can’t be hooked up with this preamp. I’d love to find a way, or find some good alternatives.
@lusithanddevices Жыл бұрын
@@swampede0366 other people have used active EMG's with our preamps, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible in this case. Does that mean that you can't use active EMG'S with no other preamps on the market? It seems highly unlikely.

Think of the Filter preamp as the Tone Pot on your instrument. Now, imagine it on steroids with an increased resonant peak.
