Yes there was a REAL Penny Lane who was the inspiration. She even contributed to & worked on the movie. The actress read DesBarres & Buels books though.

Relationships are allways like that, you are wellcome as long as you are. At least in western culture. The only exeption is parents and their children. If you are married it may take a little longer time to get thrown out though. But it still is a reality. You may get replaced.

I think on the last chapters of the season 3, Marissa was growning up for her desire to go to greece and work out as housewive, and stay with her father. I think will be interesting in the season 4, see this grown up and madurity on marissa to finally married with ryan and had a health realitionship with him. But the writers, prefer to kill her instead 😂.

LOL i love the creativity of the outfits but i know for sure some were made fun of. There really wasn't that much good music in the 80s though i'm exploring it but meh some are pretty good songs but i'm not in love with them. I'm already running out of songs to listen from the 80s compared to the 60s and 90s decades, they had so many more good songs but it's always just one or two songs i like from some artists from the 80s and my mum feels the same. I think the best genre of the time is Glam Rock/Metal like really powerful sounds, brilliant drummers and bass players, and great attitude they really worked their hardest and gave it their all. I like whitesnake, motley crue, autograph, skid row, and dokken i think they're the best and i like they have better quality sound but more toned down outfits. I just went through some of their songs and i can't deny they're the top bands above all of them great stuff. The hip hop the same thing again i like one or two songs from a few artists but it's certainly really cool and inspired EDM mostly up to the middle 90s giving me a few of my fave songs. Right now hip hop is making a come back and so is the fashion i'm seeing supermarkets that sell clothes that are like mexican/hip hop clothes the pants are a bit more baggy and they're selling waist coats and stripy shirts with the pop collars, sporty shell suits, and it's mixed with 80s style office suits with similar style blazers. This is probably because i'm seeing a trend coming using a lot of 80s music like multiple adverts are using 80s songs or in the style of it , they have clearly chosen a main style me thinks and it looks like it's already beginning. Many of you who were teens in the 80s will probably be thrilled about that if the music they create is any good, personally i don't mind it because any older music is better than what we've had for over 15 years i pray it's really good.

I was born in the 80s, youngest in my family. This was great! My favorite clothes in my aunts closet were from the 80s as a kid: ruffles, lace, silk, sequins, shoulder pads! And you put a name to my Granny’s favorite lounge wear with those track suits. But you forgot to mention Basquiat and the graffiti in fashion they keep repeating 😂

The interwar years, the 1940's and the 1950's had a huge impact on the 1980's, and thus on its fashion. Especially the early part of the decade exhibited a marked nostalgia for the 1950's, symbolizing the time period before everything 'went wrong' (the culture revolution of the 1960's and 70's). In fact, a movie like Grease (1978) can actually be said to have kicked of the 1980's. Everybody talks about big hair all the time, but at least as emblematic of the decade were the short in the neck curly french twist or poodle like updos, images of period correct hairstyles of which have nowadays proven to be exceedingly hard to find on the internet for some reason.

Depeche and Duran looked like a huge influence when it came to STYLE. Depeche Mode put out EXCELLENT tunes from 81-89 IMO. not one weak tune. Duran had some kick-ass style, too!!!

I lived through the 80's from age 6 through 16 and LOVED that decade, to the point that as 1989 edged towards 1990, I knew the vibe had changed - music, fashion were just different and even though I was only 16 and the 90's were supposed to be my decade I hated it. In the 80's each year's particular fashion trend had a huge following i.e. in 1984 it was the ra-ra skirt and 1985 it was ski pants etc. Literally every girl in my town was wearing those things, it wasn't just one or two. The technology was just enough to make life a little easier, but didn't dominate. Mobile's were unnecessary as you arranged a time and place to meet and the other person was there.

Almost Famous is one of my all-time favorite movies. It is like watching my life story, but not as a groupie. I met my husband in 1970 when I was 13 & he was 14. We married at 16 & 17 and the 70s was my absolute favorite time of life! I was young, in love, got married, all my family was still alive and I was in great health! AGE SUCKS! This movie showed it all. Whenever I am down, I can watch it and remember looking as good as Penny Lane in those days, LOVE the music and we went to all of the concerts then...YES, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Black Oak Arkansas, The Who, Elton John, The Beatles, Boston, Led Zepplin, on & on! This movie is the most accurate portrayal of those years than anything I have ever seen. Right down to the Anaheim Stadium shot of the ramp to backstage, and the Palladium Theater that Penny Lane walks through. I saw Uriah Heep there and it was EXACTLY like that. What a wonderful time of life to grow up. Luckily, my witness and lover is right by my side, and we watch and listen as we drift back to a better world...after 50 years of marriage. ! I REMEMBER WHEN!

Honestly, there's a book called Madame Bovary which i didn't get when I had to read for uni but essentially the author wrote it to warn people against "empty writing' especially the rise of the romance novel. He said it sets people up for believing in fantasy and wrote a character Emma who falls into such debt while believing she's a princess that she can't find a solution by the end of the story. Needless to say, it's not a romantic comedy. I think women are written so badly in some books and shows that it takes them by shock, not just surprise but shock when life expects them to be agents of their own destiny. And yet, at the same time, women in my family who are housewives still get more respect than single working gals. Great analysis. I loved it. And I love Mischa.

Ryan is my favourite character, but Marissa is a close second. I like how serious Ryan is and I like how life happens to Marissa. I feel like that a lot. I feel like no matter how hard I try and how hard I resist falling into the rabbit hole, all the time things just don't work out. IDK what's going on with the universe b/c I've tried pretty hard. My most favourite look and one i remember from the show is Marissa matching a polo shit with a flowing skirt. What I remember it is b/c it totally doesn't go, like she woke up late and just threw on whatever was in the laundry basket YET SHE LOOKS AMAZING. That's what I liked about her.

Long hair was a youth trend since the 60s. Styles were more natural then. Nobody really groomed it much until the 80s, with all kinds of new gels, mousse, goofy color products, and sprays.
