Oasis dressed more stylish in the 2000's in my opinion. Once Britpop was over they went for the slightly dandy retro Mod look of late 60s early 70s Beatles Stones Who influence. The clothes started to fit better, especially the trousers and they ditched the trainers for smarter shoes a lot more

That’s because they got older, they looked bang on in 96 to 98 when the money came rolling in

Suede is different from the others, they project a different image and musical taste in each of their album release. even until 2022 it seems they are a different band than what they are in the 90's, but still great.

This was the best life, believe. I was barely an adult at the time, and wish I was a fully fledged grown up with a regular 9-5 job, owning my own house and car. Life was more carefree and simple, and less, this music I took for granted I now listen too more and more.

Wouldn't say britpop was entirely "lad rock", some bands like pulp and suede seem to be aimed at a more alternative audience

What an interesting analysis! I've oscillated between Blur and Oasis all through my teen years, but I guess I've followed Blur with a little more of a passionate heart - mostly due to the huge crush I had on Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon 😆 I'm loving your channel, can't wait for your future videos!

I always felt that the battle for number one between Blur and Oasis was unjust! Country House was released on 2 CD formats and being a fan I bought both, however I did buy a 12" of the Oasis single alongside the CD to offset it! Country House wasn't even that great a single and The Great Escape really didn't live up to the hype! What's the Story? (Morning Glory) is far superior in so many ways! All that aside I wish I could relive that era of British music again! I haven't a clue as to music now in 2022 and think that peoples taste in music now is so heavily influenced by the internet, I really believe that alot of songs in the charts now wouldn't even be there if people actually had to buy a physical format! Blur may have released two CD versions of Country House but one of them was a live recording and Oasis always had B-sides that were on par with or if not better than the A-side!

I think Britpop and Grunge ran parallel to each other, and would be better labelled as British Indie and American Indie. At the time, there wasn't really antagonism between the two. I only heard that Damon Albarn quote about grunge a year or so ago. Both genres were heavily influenced by the Beatles, Sex Pistols and David Bowie, with Grunge passing through punk and garage rock first and Britpop passing through Shoegaze and Madchester first. Grunge at the time also wasn't very mainstream in the UK. You were more likely to hear dance (EDM) on the radio. The dance and rave genres shared a lot of the same fashion points as Britpop. I remember the baggy Trip To Eclipse brand being really big in the early 90s. That fashion trend of baggy sports clothing, loose t-shirts, wide legged jeans, bucket hats, and checked shirts (not the thick Pacific North-West plaid shirts) started, from what I can tell, with American hip-hop in the late-80s and entered the UK with Madchester and the Roland 808 sample bands. Rock music fans in the late-80s were still wearing leather jackets, jeans, vests, etc. Some still rocking the 'hair-band' look into the early 90s. Both Grunge and Britpop bands have said something along the lines of, "We just performed in our clothes, what we wore day to day." I think Bruce Springsteen led that in the 80s. In the late 90s, the Britpop look became mainstream, and then dominant, and the grunge look filtered through when that look became the dominant look for rock music. Bands like Bon Jovi, who were hair bands in the 80s, went for the grungier look, and metal bands dropped all the black and trimmed their hair down a bit too, and became more 'every man'. There were sort of two Britpop fashions too. There was the summer look and the winter look. In the winter, it was long anoraks or parkas, jeans (skinny legs for mods or chavs/townies/scallies and baggier legs for everyone else), etc. and then in the summer, short sleeved shirts, t-shirts, football tops, bucket hats, shorts, trainers, handkerchief sun hats, etc. I can't really explain it but the music reflected it too. A lot of the songs mention the weather with some bands clearly loving the summer like Supergrass and Ocean Colour Scene. The main thing I remember about the 90s was it was very "anti-style". We'd just come out of the 80s when men were wearing make-up, Madonna was singing about Vogue, everyone had big hair, solid with hairspray, and things got very yuppie and over-produced or over-engineered. So as the 90s went on, we just got baggier and avoided brand names more. People did wear sports brands but for us, they weren't really brands like they are now. That's just what was on sale. You still had your naff brands that you avoided like Hi-Tech and Gola, but for the most part, it was just affordable sports gear, not fashion gear. Then that era turned it into fashion, sort of ironically. The bands might've been wearing designer Union Jack stuff but that wasn't on most people's radars. Another thing to remember about that time is fashions were still quite un-American. I remember going to Canada as a kid in 1992 and they loved our clothes there. It was all that psychedelic Madchester stuff and rave stuff. We didn't think anything of it, it was just mainstream in the UK. In Canada, they were wearing hoodies and things we weren't quite into yet. In the 80s, everyone was still wearing woolen knitted jumpers and even tracksuits were a bit flash, especially with matching top and bottoms. When we saw shell suits and Bermuda shorts, it was like peering into the future. I think Timmy Mallet was one of my first style icons. One last thing I remember is the laddish culture, in my experience, wasn't really loutish, yobbish, or misogynistic. If anything, it put women on the same level as men. It was okay for them to drink pints and go wild on a night out, whereas before, they were drinking white wine, Archers and lemonade (a nice drink actually), wearing heels, dresses, on their best behaviour, "women and children should be seen and not heard" and all that stuff. You can see it in Only Fools and Horses from that era. Also, before the 90s, women weren't encouraged to go to the pub in the day, to watch the football, to talk about or enjoy sex, or even be too independent. If you watch some old shows from the 90s showing how things were in Ibiza on those Club 18-24 holidays, or whatever it was, you can see the women going more wild than the men. But yeah, as laddish as it was, and as sexual as those "lad magazines" were, it was a liberal and respectful time for most.

Oasis was my 90s go to. In the US the style caught on so easy because it had a classic clean sporty appearance. Still popular look amoung most men. Being female i gravitated to 90s mod fashion.
