I loved the jigsaw puzzle, but I wanted to see the logo etched. I want to do the same thing with a photo. Do you just etch it over the cut puzzle pieces? Can you give me any insight? Thanks so much. I love your video and I have subscribed.

I just had an idea- water under the cutting bed. If for some reason a fire starts it at least won't be able to fall through and light the table on fire- it'd have to flare up to get the ceiling or burn around the laser to get to more fuel. I'm gonna have to go look this up now- I wonder if anyone has tried this.

Thanks for letting me know Glowforge only runs off the Cloud. That is an absolute deal breaker and it's kind of a ridiculous requirement- the Cloud is not reliable for secure storage making this sound like they don't make professional products. It's not like they're doing it to cut costs either- pennies to add to a board.

So im looking at the glowforge aura pro. says you cant use clear acrylic but if you mask it, doesnt that make it so its not reflective? Or did i get something wrong?

A huge Thank you to you guys. I am still doing my research as to why I want one. At present where I would set it up doesn’t have ventilation so I’m not ready to invest. I am also unsure if I should start with the glowforge aura or go all out and purchase the glowforge pro. Anyway, I am grateful I came across your post because it has stopped me just going out and buying something that I may not have the right environment to use.

@saltmakecity Can you link the google doc that has all the different glowforge/laser settings? The link in the description was not working for some reason. I am buying my materials online for cheaper and I need to know what settings to put the machine at.

Not a single CNC laser machine targeted at hobbyists or small businesses and produced within North America could be manufactured without incorporating cheap components from China, and that includes the laser tubes. The few laser tubes which are manufactured outside of China are far too expensive (think more than the total price of lasers like GlowForge, xTool P2, Aeon Mira, etc.).

Regarding dangers, it sounds like you haven’t actually been burnt by a CO2 laser. Yet. It’s not about the eyes, it’s about the thumb and fingers that you are manipulating your source with. Skin is transparent to a CO2 laser; so it doesn’t burn your skin, it burns internally. Horribly painful.

And of course, it’s invisible.

Steve! What a great channel! That was a truly evil puzzle you made! To stay sane, I have a personal wood-shop and to add to the insanity (to stay sane, of course), I bought a flux core welder last summer. I've built a few projects like a bracket for hanging a huge TV screen and one for my monitor that was fabricated to fit the receiver on the monitor since there were no screw holes for mounting. Someday, I hope to get into 3-D printing, laser, and CNC machining.

I am done with my Glowforge and I have huge buyers remorse. It was easy to set up but was finnicky from the start - and what you mention about smells and toxic fumes while cutting is spot on - definitely not what you see with the Glowforge ads and images. A year and a half after getting my Glowforge, the lid came unglued and I have to pay $1600 to get it fixed. I'll be shopping for another laser and never recommending the substantial investment of a Glowforge.

I would like a Glow forge. Just found this video and your channel. Great information and certainly helpful. I’m sure it states it on Glow forge website but how much does it weigh and if you had to change a tube is it a do it yourself or do you have to send it in for repair.

Brilliant video, you've saved me 10k, was about to buy two of the pro's here in the UK but I'm not prepared to use a tool that relies on cloud software to operate, especially as I bet there are clauses in the ULA that make designs open source. Sorry Glowforge, I didn't spend 4 years pursuing a patent with reg'd designs to make my invention a community asset.

Hey guys! The 12” transfer tape you linked actually says “do not use with laser cutter/engraver devices” in the description… do you have an updated recommendation?
