Woop-Dee-doo!!! Jimilima-ding-dong and Bromp, are finally wrapping up good old (new) fashioned Batman with Mad Love (or Dr Quinzel Can Buy Herself Flowers, She’s got a Flower Guy… or Flower Gal.) Here it is, the Batman episode everyone and their mother was excited for, if Bri-bri hates it, I vow to do twenty-five push ups. I can’t help but think Joker saying “may the floss be with you” was the weakest bit and must have earned a slight disapproving stare for Mark Hamill in the recording studio. Speaking of Mr J, it’s nice to see that after pushing Harley out a f***ing window, that clown falls off a moving monorail and seemingly to his death. I’m sure he used his weird cryptic powers to walk out without a scratch, but still. I’m so shocked that such a dark, mature, sad episode came from Bruce Timm and Paul Dini (aka the Horny bros). Then again… something, something, “rev up your Harley!” Well that’s it, that’s all the old Batman we got! Sorry Brain guess you’ll just have to settle for literally anything else. Till next time stay Yopped up.

Brian might know Carl Lumbly from Marvel's Falcon and Winter Soldier as Isaiah Bradley, a role which he's reprising in the new Captain America movie. He was also in Alias, Cagney & Lacey and the recent Fall of the House of Usher Netflix show, if that helps. Of course, we all know and love him for that other upcoming DCAU role.

MAD LOVE or “Hurt People Hurt People” or “Harley Blaming Her Problems On An Aggressive Billionaire Is Actually Understandable” The title of Mad Love could refer to any of the romances we’ve encountered on this Yoppie journey: Batgirl and her College Dick, Bullock and donuts, Baby Doll and Killer Croc, but especially Brian and Clayface (the fact that James still hasn’t made fan art of this is very troubling to me). But anywho here we are, the final episode of Batman as we know it, whether you classify it as BTAS or TNBA. And it ends on an all-time classic: Harley Quinn’s origin story. Arleen Sorkin gives her best performance as Harley here and Mark Hamill’s Joker is on fine form as per usual. And by the end, you can’t help but feel for Harley. It’s a vicious cycle that never ends. She ends up still loving him even though it doesn’t take much to assume that a situation like this will happen again. Although you have to appreciate the unintentional irony of it cutting to Poison Ivy when Harleen says “Well, I’ve always found an attraction to extreme personalities.” I’ll leave most of the discussion to everyone else, but having not watched it in a while, I’m glad that it still holds up in my eyes. And with that, TNBA comes to a close. It has its ups and downs like BTAS before it, but it gave us more time with these iconic interpretations and some all-time bangers IMO. For the record, my top 5 favorite episodes are as follows: Legends of the Dark Knight, THIS, Old Wounds, Joker’s Millions, and Critters. Boss Biggust bear hugs to the number one podcast hosts in this here multiverse of ours: Junk In The Trunk and Babette J. Finklestein. Praise to our lord and savior Dylan Pollack (keep up the great work on your own podcast and remember to tell Gab that she rules)! Likewise of course to all of his loyal disciples: Skarloey1, Batgirl Fangirl, Scotty Cameron, WENCY209, TipTapricot, Keen Machine, Jordan Newman, Zane Beatty, Kris Knife, LaNolaCola, Juan Pedro, Ashley Tuchin, Scrudge, the Banana family, Hex Lex, Eric LeBeau, the Banana Man-Bat, Austin Trousers, Slacks Payne, Ryan Hipp, Peter Pantaloons, Nick Sorenson, Kyle the Kyle, and of course ALL the awesome-sauce listeners of this yoppie community of ours. You all are the absolute best, don’t you ever forget that. Love the new Will It Canon video, everyone who isn’t Brian should go check it out! Seeing as this is the last traditional Batman episode that we’ll see, I feel it’s best to let the friends we’ve made along the way play us out. Gang? [various villains from throughout BTAS and TNBA come in single file and form a chorus line, these include the Sewer King, Lyle Bolton, Red Claw, Maxie Zeus, Condiment King, Farmer Brown, Boss Biggus, The Terrible Trio, Calendar Girl, Clock King, Baby Doll, and others] Chorus: 🎵 “WEEEE’LL MEET AGAAAAAAIN, DON’T KNOW WHERRRRRRE, DON’T KNOW WHEEEENNNN, BUT IIII KNOW WE’LL MEET AGAIN SOME SUNNY DAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!” 🎵 Boy, who would’ve guessed that Maxie Zeus had such a voice? He could make Adele sound like a chalkboard scratch. Let’s give them all a hand, everyone. I’m sure in a hour’s time, Brian will have completely forgotten that most of these characters ever existed. ‘Til next week, SMOKE BOMB! 💣💨💨💨💨

I watched my DVD copy of this instead of my Blu-Ray so I could see the extra effects during Bruce's heart attack. Thanks for pointing out this difference! I went back to compare with the Blu-Ray after and indeed it's a much weaker scene without the effect.
@nicksorenson9408 күн бұрын
It is. Best excuse I can think of for how they could have overlooked it is that it may have been a post-production overlay effect that wasn't actually on the original film negatives. Still, they should not have forgotten to carry that over to the Blu-rays as it was always integral to that moment.
@UlrichRyddle8 күн бұрын
@@nicksorenson940 that's as good an explanation as I can think of. I believe James and/or Dan Riba may have said that there were fixes that they did to the DVD versions that just didn't carry over to the Blu-Rays and this must have been one of them.

The bad: one size fits all bat-suit. The rad: the new opening, specifically the shot of Batman going by an oval/vented lense about 42 seconds in. The never been had: Derrick Powers's Muttley-esque laugh.

Ok, I'm still behind but I just thought, what if, instead of jumping on the bat wagon, I jump into the future where I'm already on the bat wagon?? And just like that, I'm all caught up with the best podcast ever (well I'll still listen to all those other episodes and maybe comment on them every now and then to confuse James). The Adventures of Superman radio show as a gift is awesome! I'd love to hear your reaction/thoughts on those first episodes! The origin is so ridiculous (SPOILER FOR A NEARLY 100 YEARS OLD SHOW until the next paragraph: at the end of ep1 he's a baby in the spaceship, and at the start of ep2 he's literally coming out of the spaceship as an adult, already in the Superman costume) Also that show was the first medium where Superman could fly (they don't say it, but like, it's obvious in the context, you hear it and go "yeah, the flying in what's happening here"), and the famous "it's a bird" intro originated there, and Perry White, and the first Batman/Superman crossover... Sorry, what show are we discussing here? Ah, so Batman Beyond is called Batman of the Future, because there's no way to adequately translate "beyond" to make a title that would sound good, at least in Russian, but I assume that's the case for a lot of languages. «Бэтмен будущего» (batman boo-doo-sch-ye-go) sounds and looks kinda neat, so I don't mind the change.

Hard to believe we're finally at Batman Beyond now. I was already watching Kids' WB! by the time this series premiered, meaning this very well had to have been the first show in the DCAU that I got to experience right from its first airings on TV without having to rely on the official home video releases as my only introduction into it like I had to previously with BTAS and STAS (though I did still own that "Batman Beyond: The Movie" cut of these episodes on VHS). I also had already gotten a small tease of this series beforehand through the concept art featured in the Batman Animated book that I owned. Of course my complete memories of following the series back then might be a little hazy since this also happened to be the same time that Kids' WB! first became the official home for a certain anime/video game franchise that I quickly developed a whole other addictive love affair with as it was already making a big impact here in the west and only continuing to grow in its own mainstream popularity. I think everyone knows which one I'm talking about. But enough about that, what can I remember thinking about Beyond at the time? I can remember thinking it was pretty cool in its own right as this edgy, futuristic new spin on the Dark Knight that I could totally get behind with the premise they put behind it being very easy to get behind as well. To think this all originally came about cause WB executives wanted some kind of teenage Batman cartoon that could appeal more to a younger demographic (or likely in their minds, "Kidde Batman"). Leave it to Timm & crew to take a prospect that could have ended up as something terrible and evolving it into a truly awesome series that's only proven to be a more than worthy continuation of the Batman mythos and where it can go after Bruce hangs the cape. Glad to know Brian's already digging it as we start diving deeper into the world of Neo Gotham 50 years from now. Whenever now is.

The Batman Beyond intro feels like “Hey, did you finish making the future Batman kids show intro?” “Kids show?” PS. I like to think helicopters are basically flying cars. They fit the description. Just make them less noisy and you’re golden.

@@bgvo4373 We've been watching these in the, as the intro says, "controversial airdate order," since the beginning! These are how the shows aired for human beings in the far-gone days of the 1900s, and thus are how Brian will be experiencing them--as if he was there! I mean...he was. He's 40 years old. These episodes set such a great tone for the series and have such a great grasp of Terry's character. Also, I think the excuse for Terry being good at fighting is he had a rough time growing up and has lots of experience beating the crap out of people from his time in juvie and doing the things that led to him ending up in juvie. THIS PART OF THE COMMENT ISN'T FOR BRIAN! SPOILER AHEAD!! Brian's sweet-summer child approach to why the Bat-family is absent makes me sad because I think the Batman of BTAS and (arguably) JL/U wouldn't shove everybody away. My biggest problem with Batman Beyond is when it's treated as THE future because it makes Bruce such a colossal dick and honestly says that everybody else in the family kind of sucked at relationships since they were never able to really connect with him the way that Terry eventually does. The set up is perfect for Terry, but accidentally kind of damns everybody else when telling stories about them set before BB imo. Anyways, I enjoy BB immensely and just headcanon it as the future if RotJ happens, but for JLU Bats it never happens

Welcome back Shwoppy boys, Bejewled and Lord Byron. Superman’s back, baby, in Absolute Power (or Mark Waid’s well intentioned callback to a 2004 series… oh wait, no the other thing.) Yeah Not-Zod and Not-Ursa are back and just as interesting as last time. Sorry I’m not a fan of these two. Black holes are cool… and uh “we won’t be seeing him again” (read in Jango Fett voice). Anyway I’m gonna go enjoy the extremely rare and once in a lifetime quantity of snow in my yard. Stay schwoppy and Schwopp on. Also thank you for finally making musical minute an actually segment.
Greetings Brother Broderick Beyond and The Jamiezzzz Gang! OK, I'm 17 minutes in, so I've only got about 30 minutes before they actually start the episode. Now, before we get any further, Brian, if you do not like Batman Beyond (or Batman of the Future, as it was called down here), Heaven help me, I will disown you. I've cut you a lot of slack over the years and allowed you to have your so-called "opinion", but if you are not hooked on this show from the prologue and intro alone, then you will be dead to me. OK, with that said, have fun guys. Oh and the new logo or whatever you want to call it should be Terry heroically blasting off into the air, towing the Batwagon from his ankles, with Brick and James dangling off the back, screaming and holding on for dear life. Oh and sorry the the lack of comments lately, the last month has been rough - the week of Christmas was particularly difficult - but things have settled down now. I even managed to get through the Yopisode Guide in increments over the course of a week (I literally just finished the final 10 minutes before starting this). Kudos for managing to make it entertaining all the way through.

Batman Beyond has always held a special place for me because of its tonal and genre differences from BTAS. You could feel the passion in what they were doing and it quickly becomes obvious how much they learned from the process of making BTAS.
