Legends of the Dark Knight! I've so wanted to hear Brian's reactions to this particular one. I love the first story as I like the whole Sprang/Filmation/Adam West styled silliness. With the giant props and goofy puns, I can't get enough of this stuff! Every time I see this I see something new, like Batman's cape blowing in the wind indoors! I must say Michael McKean made a wonderful 50s Joker. Fantastic pod "old chums" keep them coming, they brighten my week without a doubt. Five stars and five "Humongous flutes"🙂💛

LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT or “Pointy Mutant Nipples” or “All I Care About Is Hearing Brian’s Reaction To The Name ‘Dick Sprang’.” The great Guillermo Del Toro once said something in a documentary about Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy that I think echoes a lot of what this episode represents: “We live in the 21st Century and our Ulysses and our Achilles are Batman and Superman. For many of us, those were the sagas that we took to heart and growing up with mythology like that, reading the comics of Batman, you hear your own Batman. Through that narrative, we process the world. It’s like a religion. Each man has his own Jesus. Your Jesus can be vengeful and righteous and my Jesus can be forgiving and loving and there's no right Jesus in the same way that there's no right Batman.” No truer words have ever been spoken. That represents the brilliance of this episode. Every version of the Bat that is shown here is valid, every interpretation of Batman throughout the decades is valid, doesn’t matter what it is. It’s a love letter to Batman’s history and to us, the fans. The way they emulate the styles of Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Jerry Robinson, and Frank Miller is so cool and the attention to detail is truly a wonder to behold. That shot of Batman gliding across the screen, blowing into the big saxophone with his cape fluttering in the air brings all the joy, all of the joy. In case it hasn’t been made clear, I love this episode. Easily one of my all-time favorite episodes of the DCAU, one of the top 3 best of TNBA, I love it, I love it, I love it. Boss Biggust bear hugs to the number one podcast hosts in this here multiverse of ours: Jerry Goldsmith and Boingy Boingy Boingy. Praise to our lord and savior Dylan Pollack (keep up the great work on your own podcast and remember to tell Gab that she rules)! You all are the absolute best, don’t you ever forget that. (comfortable sigh) God, I love this episode. “Hey, aren’t you going to follow up on that cliffhanger from your comment last week?” You’re not the boss of me…. ‘Til next week, BANANA SMOKE BOMB 🍌 💣 💨💨💨 that’ll be blown out by a BANANA OL’ WHOOSH! Regarding Legends of the Dark Knight, it's obviously a great episode. A huge homage to Comic Book history and all the amazing people who made said history, and also it has my favourite Joker design so far. And then, there's... uhhhhhhh... the apearence of the character "Joel". Well, what the actual fuck, writers? To those who didn't catch it, Joel is not only an obvious gay stereotype (which is fine for a character with 5 seconds of screentime), but a metaphor for the director of Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, Joel Schumacher. Now, Schumacher is a gay man, who put a considerable amount of queer coding in his movies, just like any artist puts part of themselves in their work. His sexuality wasn't public knowledge untill 2019, but among Batman fans, the coding in Batman and Robin especialy was noticed and overall not apretiated, to put it lightly. And wouldn't you know it, what also happens in Schumacher's movies? Yes, the Batmobile drives up walls. So, in conclusion, that was prety mean. I don't know why I'm reacting to this as is if the epsiode was made today and not in 1998, when this would be considered prety tame even by the queer community. I guess I just wanted to point out how very often the Batman fandom (and superhero fanndoms in general) can become so full of bigotry and toxicity that it even affects a heavily censored children's cartoon made by these fans. Part of being a fan should be admiring how people wildly different from you can identify themselves in the same role model as you. It makes me happy to see how far we've come as a worldwide community in the last decades. Bye.

I absolutely love this episode. Superman as Batman was funny. His dynamic with Robin was fun and we even got Superman having to try to interrogate someone

So this episode is one that always stuck out to me. So the Batman begins and Superman returns toylines are basically the same scale and style. As a kid I had the Bruce to Batman figure from the begins line and a basic Superman from returns and I would always reenact this episode by putting the Batman cowl on supes

As one of their first real follow-ups on the big "World's Finest" crossover I really enjoy this episode. It's a lot of fun watching the Man of Steel have to go through a moment of living in the shoes of the Dark Knight to help Tim find Bruce. I love how he uses a little bit of his power to essentially play mind games with Batman's rogues by making Batman seem even more like a fearfully unstoppable force than they would have ever imagined him to be. Also have to love knowing that Brainiac's "followers on the internet" comment is just as much relevant about us fans today as it had to have been back then when the internet was still in its infancy. He may as well have predicted the Watchtower Database itself with that line. Anyway, this is my last comment for the podcast before I'm expecting to be temporarily moved out of my apartment unit for major refurbishing, so I'll just have to see if I can continue to keep up with the podcast from wherever I am or if I'm going to have to be... away from it for a while.

I love this episode just for the premise alone, it's so much fun to see Supes getting to play Batman. I actually would love to see Batman having a go at playing Supes, using all manner of gadgets to replicate his powers. Looking forward to Legends of the Dark Knight. It's another great episode with a great premise, but I'm bracing myself for Brian's negative reaction, because the references and homages will definitely go over his head.

Clark Kent's Batman costume is looking pretty fire. But maybe someone should tell him that he's a bit too late for Halloween. Anyways, it's time for bricky bri's favorite part: The Inquiry of The Day. Today's Inquiry: At what point do you think an opinion on a piece of media becomes invalid? Yeah, I'm asking some hard hitting thought provoking questions here...or maybe not depending on what your definition of thought provoking is. But whatever, I still think it's an interesting question nonetheless. Anyways, stay yopptastic!

Hi Jimbo Jones and C Montgomery Burns, let’s all say “excellent” about a terrific anthology… Legends of the Dark Knight (or “Now If You’ll Excuse Me, I’m Going Home To Sleep With My Wife!”) In case you hadn’t guessed, the Dick Sprang silver age segment was my favorite part. Space Ghost and Chuck McGill clashing in a giant music museum is utterly delightful. Otherwise I thought the Frank Miller segment was cool but the animated movies are much better. And I think the writers owe Joel Shumacher’s ghost an apology. Speaking of apology, it’s kind of sad that this is the first time they thought to acknowledge Bill Finger (f-- Bob Kane, all my homies hate Bob Kane) Anyhow let’s hope Firefly continues too show up in better episodes than his debut (extra homework for Bri-Bry, google the Batman 2004 firefly and see if you prefer that design). You yop heads have a nice November.

1:33:14 Kyle hit the nail on the head here. As much as I like Michael Keaton as an actor and as Batman, he is still an overrated Batman. Keaton's Batman is basically the Comedian from Watchmen except he doesn't gleefully murder bad guys with guns, he just enjoys killing people with his hands. His Bruce Wayne lacked the charisma and charm of Bruce Wayne, he doesn't throw people off of the scent that he's Batman. The "Let's get nuts" scene doesn't feel like something Batman would do as Bruce and also he is overacting. His Batman is good because Keaton is naturally a good actor, but nothing about the characterization and portrayal of Batman feels nothing like Batman. Some of that is Tim Burton there is a lot that can be attributed to Keaton too. Then again my favorite Live Action is Christian Bale.
