I live on Skye and these look great for some of the terrain up here. I’m thinking of investing in some of these, but the Inov-8 Mudtalon Speed look like a good competition. Decisions, decisions!!

A good solid sound review covering all 'ports of call' in a trail shoe review, I think. I typically run just 4-7 miles in very technical UK off-road terrain. I wonder if that might mean I'd elude the boa heel lockdown/aching toes problem? But my feet are fairly wide as well. But I can get away with running in the old Salomon Fellcross shoes (narrow) for 4-7 miles.

Love your stuff but I honestly don't know wha " room in the toebox" you're tralking about. It's tight-fitting to the point of doubling for my ballet hobby.

Nice video. How many minutes at threshold do you recommend for each uphill rep? For example, I have long hill near me that takes about 4-5 minutes to run uphill at threshold pace. Is this long enough if you string together several reps?
@runfreeultra
@runfreeultra 5 ай бұрын
Yep that hill will work nicely! Aim to do 12 mins at VO2max intensity to start as 12 x 1 min (1 min rest) or 6 x 2min (2 min rest) or 4 x 3 min (3 min rest). Threshold intervals are longer with shorter rest, say 6 x 4 mins (2 mins rest) or 5 x 6 min (3 mins rest)... best of luck!

Loved the film, great to get a first person view of such a crazy race. You mentioned in the comments below you were wearing Salomon S/Lab Pulsar 2 SG's with a Vibram outsole. Did you get the Vibram Peak District outsole? I ask because the Key Cobbler website has a photo of some Pulsar's with the Vibram Peak District Outsole and also because I've just sent my S/Lab Genesis shoes to them for the same outsole - would love to know what you think of it as feels like a bit of a gamble...Interested in the other Vibram outsoles but not sure they'd be much of a difference vs the standard S/Lab Genesis outsoles. Thanks again for the video 🙏

This is a tough one, but for a 50k in a dry rocky climate (desert rats in Colorado) would you choose the Vectiv Sky or the Vectiv Pro 2?
@runfreeultra
@runfreeultra 6 ай бұрын
Yeah that is a tough one! I'd personally rock the Vectiv SKY for a 50k (great if you like a more responsive ride and secure lockdown) but if you're heavier or love more cushioning, the PRO 2 is the way to go - best of luck!!

You talked about everything except whether it was waterproof or not. This is a rain jacket, not an AC. If it isn't waterproof, who cares if it is breathable or not! But then again, why ask a reviewer. Actual people who have actually bought and tested this jacket in real life say that it leaks like it's nobody's business. Might as well go ahead and wear a mesh jacket. That also is very breathable. You should be ashamed of yourself conning people into buying a rain jacket that isn't waterproof.

Kenyan Hills are on my Marathon training plan. Never done them before. Are you trying to sprint these efforts or is it more of a maximum effort at race pace?
@runfreeultra
@runfreeultra 8 ай бұрын
These should be in Zone 4 Threshold, so think a tempo effort faster than your marathon race pace but not a flat out sprint - we want to keep these aerobic! Best of luck with the training and race! 💪

Great review thanks - I initially purchased a full size down from my 10 to a 9 which were only just too small so I've returned for a 9.5, they arrive tomorrow! My main reason for purchasing was that I kept rolling my ankles in high stack trail shoes and wanted to try something different. Purchased mine through Runners Need and their customer service has been spot on with the return.

Thanks I’m gonna try that with sense pro 4, the fit is kind of off for me. They’re narrow but long I put a little heel bumpers in that, and that healed the length but the most I can take them for is like a 50 K because they’re so narrow upfront, which my old pros weren’t like that but but I’m gonna try that I’m gonna you know the insoles are paper thin anyways, so I’m gonna just pull those out and maybe this weekend’s gonna try my long run like that and see if that’s any better That’s what I heard from a friend that the normal shoe is just wider by a millimeter or so in the toolbox then the F lap and that’s like perfect that’s all I’ve been ever asking Solomon to do I love the loader the ground field. I love it all. I just want a little bit wider in the toolbox. I like this, the narrow midfoot I love it all , just give me a little bit more in the box and I don’t want the high stack. I tried the pulsar and the pulsar pro and I didn’t like the high stack height for me.

Hey Tracy, you're spot on it's running UP HILL for 3 mins at a hard effort, then jog back to the start in 3 mins (so 6 mins total). I'd repeat that 5 or 6 times. If you're new to hill reps start with 5 x 90s reps and build from there :)

Nnormal shoes are junk. The soles of both types came loose within 50 miles. The company said they were under warranty and to send them back for a full refund. They just kept the shoes without the refund. First they said there was a delay in it, then they said they said that it was not guaranteed that they would issue a refund. They just kept my shoes and quit replying to my emails.

Do the ankle collar wear in over time? I just ordered an exchange for my pair since the padding seemed a little wonky and rubbed my foot painfully. Hopefully the new pair will fit better. Other than that very confidence inspiring shoe for difficult terrain! I didn't find the toebox that roomy. Sure it has room for bunions but the tip is pointy.

I thought the carbon wings would be a problem but wearing thicker ininji socks seemed to keep any issues at bay. I sized down half a size. Ran out of box 11 miles on semi- tech terrian. Following weekend ran almost 19 /5500 elevation gain in the Boulder hills and they worked great. I’d say the downside for me was the power hiking and scrambling up steep rocky steps. Midsole is too soft and felt like I was working harder than I should have.

That's awesome Tom, it's such a fun shoe for eating up the miles! Interesting about the soft midsole for hiking, I wonder if it will improve as it compresses?
