biggest problem is matchmaking. you have to wiat in lobby for ppl to join. i understand ppl cant just drop in mid game, but the fact they cant even join lobby and wait to join game next match ruined chances for ppl to find games unless ppl just stay waiting in lobby forever and ppl keep spamminh search for match over and over

I remember all the days of FFXI.. I did end up quitting roughly abyssea but I have been back for the last 5 years and enjoying it. Still have friends and linkshell. Skill and Knowledge were essential in the game and from my experience this games populous (at least on my server) were more than happy to discover those things together. I remember the BST LS's where they would have charts and explanations etc. Working together. The Devs did a really good job and the community responded well to it.

Could this project have become the game Jacob's Quest that's on steam? A lot of the images seemed similar, and it had things shown, like the 4 member party... Clicking on Jake under developer brings up a screen for darkdesigngamesltd... (it was added on steam nov. 22nd, 2022... much much later than this video was)

I love Culture Brain games. That logo is awesome, I want Culture Brain gear. Lol. Flying Warriors series was pure love, Baseball Simulator is awesome, and Ninja Brothers series was great too (The small appearances of other Culture Brain characters made me lose my mind. Lol.) Also, the music is always so catchy.

it's not gonna happen, but it would be kinda fun if they made a single-player version of the game, before shutting it down (whenever that will happen). It would require a lot of work to make certain encounters doable with trust as well as making certain things more available without the MMORPG economy, but it would be nice to have a piece of nostalgia you could return to whenever you feel like it.

I agree. My son and I have been playing since the NA PS2 release when I bought two PS2 systems with FFXI, keyboards, mice, networking, etc. We joined an LS on Caitsith named Brotherhood. We still miss those wonderful people, especially our White Mage, Crasher. There are so many memories a person couldn't begin to relate them to another or know how. IBHalliwell and Ramrat on Ragnarok

I hate videos like this. That pretend the games have bad stories just because they’re told differently. They aren’t. I’d go watch other videos to get an idea of the nuance they actually have. So enough with the “so bad it’s good” take. It’s just good.

I understand not wanting to watch a 31 minute video to get to the actual thesis of the video, but I make it pretty clear that it's genuinely good.

25:10 just a Note, this decision was not recived well by the playerbase (pretty much taking one of the only contenders for a 10/10 EDF game and shooting it in the kneecaps mid race) and while I think Sandlot should patch it out, they did change it in 5 and other games going forwards where while it is said your support is being lost you don't actually lose your call-ins, and in general gave Air Raider a ton of QoL Love to make up for beating it with a hammer in 4.1. Sure it may be "powerful" as a story telling tool, but gameplay wise it makes Air Raider the worst class to play in 4.1 and just harms the game overall, I'd honestly just look to find a mod that removes it if the game had an actual modding scene, actively stripping the ultility of a class at least three times (on three seperate missions) makes that class not as attractive to play, especialy in multiplayer where you go from being a contributing member of the team to someone that probalbly can't even defend themselves unless you have stocked up a surplus of vehicles before hand or have a Balam which doesn't need ammo, and there are additional missions which may have more times where Air Raider gets stripped of their functions, it's just not fun gameplay but 4.1 is the furthest game in the series my PC can run smoothly or I'd be playing 5. Edit: and yes I did comment before, but I forgot that comment existed.

I have a personal theory that the ravegers aren't trying to wipe out humanity because this is not an effective way of doing that throwing tons of weak stuff at it that is thats not gonna get rid of a species that's how you make like the ultimate warrior race maybe thats what the ravegers are doing maybe they're just molding humans to be strong but dumb so they have just a massive army of super warriors to throw at they're own problems.

Any news on the living situation? And new videos?
@SoberDwarf2 ай бұрын
The living/finance situation hasn't really improved and kinda has become more strained, but it's still progressing; I've been able to keep things above water by selling my games (it hurts from a nostalgic sense but I still have access to them via emulation). I was hoping to move in the next few months but it looks like it's probably getting pushed back until next spring so I just have to make things work until then. As for videos, I actually have been working on a project between commissions, and I am hoping it gets done by the channel's anniversary, if not sooner.

Hey are you on horizonxi private server ?? It’s the closest to a classic xi feel that you can find and there level cap will al be 75 there only up to CoP but there releasing ToAU sometime next year. I’d recommend it If your looking for that feeling again servers always have over 1-2k players online.

What a game... I remember playing on Uncle Dan's server in the early 2000s and having a blast talking with people, playing, helping them out, and more for hours. It was always full of people just hanging out. It will always be one of those games that I always end up thinking about with fond memories. Alas, those will just remain memories of another era. We can't go back to that time, no matter how much we wish we could... "Thank you for playing Well of Souls."

It's too bad you didn't enjoy the Adoulin Expansion. I got into the game when Rhapsodies was new. So I got my gear through NM's in the Escha zones. So I wasn't too dependant on Adoulin content. Job and Exemplar points brought back XP parties but the whole system was broken by then. TP is now gained at a rapid rate so people just spam Weapon skills. AOE attacks also became over powered. The good ol' days of level grinding and learning your job was taken out of the game, unfortunately.
@zswords2 ай бұрын
Had this hit my recommended just after finishing my 3rd full playthrough of the game, bringing a friend through their first, and this hits all the points superbly. I will always say that EDF's plot is at its core, satire. It has no shame in accepting that it's a B movie plot and running with it. It knows its house, it knows its job, and it does it. One thing I wanted to mention is how you pointed out not every mission is as savage as Brute Force in terms of bringing out that dynamic story to gameplay integration and I just wanted to mention that that fact is very important and intentional. You need breaks, not just in a mission, but in the missions themselves, if you follow the tone for each particular mission as a whole there's a flow to it of highs and lows. There's multiple build ups, climaxes, and then cool downs to set up for the next mini arc. The time those breather levels stop coming, is the end, when things are truly desperate, and each time you think you're going to hit that climax, it just keeps getting worse. it's soooo good.

Tobal 1 and 2 actually featured some things that most (even current) 3d fighting games lack. When you block, the animation of the attack actually changes somewhat realistically. Only sim'ish fighting games share this feature, but it took them almost a decade to catch up to Tobal in that regard.

You had to fight hard in the early days to get anime. I was going crazy in 1992 buying magazines like Newtype at Tower Records. I even bought my first Japanese language lesson book there to try and translate them. I had been into D&D 1st and 2nd edition by then and Lodoss hit all the key points. It wasn't till about 1995 before it was sent state side in subtitles and dubbed. I still have my VHS tapes. It's a perfect love letter to classic western fantasy with an eastern spin. I love you Japan! I'm glad when you mention the played-up Parn and Deedlit romance in the anime since there was no such element in the original campaign. Yeah, she was after his magical sword, and that's not a Freudian symbol!
