i wonder if any reviewer considered this album ( mental notes - the ORIGINAL) a masterpiece when it was first released ? listening to these songs nearly 50 years later , over and over again , a masterpiece is exactly what it is ... its awesome to see so many people appreciating this timeless music ... even phil manzanera couldnt murder it , though he did inflict a few minor injuries ...

First became aware of “The Enz” back in 1976 when they had embarked on a UK tour.. There was an evening post main television news regional magazine programme on London ITV where they showed a short clip of one of the concerts and I was stunned by the visuals and music. Then a few days later, Rock DJ the late Alan Freeman played a track off Mental Notes.. I was hooked and rushed to my local record store to order a copy.. Still have it and it’s still plays well. Love the Mellotron in Time for a Change!

I don't think that many bands straddled "Prog" and Pop as well as the Enz. Those first couple of albums are just lovely. If I could put together a fantasy concert lineup from around that period up to about 1978 it would include Split Enz, The Tubes, and Thee Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. Great music, onstage theatrics, the whole package!

michael chunn's head has been assembled by a master ... every line , every shape is beautiful ... and then , just to rub it in , he was gifted a pair of eyes that surely no one has any right to ... stop at 2:07 , and weep ...

OK @Wolf Hunterz - one of the best, but least recognized post punk bands from NZ came out in 1983 and they were great- I thought they were ahead of their time. Please react to "Anti Trend" by Unrestful Movements.

I heard splitenz for the first time in 1978, Venezuela in a radio program. They played Stranger than Fiction, it really hits. I still have the tape with the recording.

Two observations: The framing left out the keyboard player. Here's a perfect example of how, for some reason, the drummer of every band always looks the most normal (but usually is the freakiest.)

I couldn't love this song more if I tried. If I could only listen to 1 Split Enz song for the rest of my life this would be it.

Split Enz "I Got You" was like nothing I'd ever heard before (out of the UK or USA) and it totally struck me ⚡🌐 - I've been 'hooked' on their unique, antipodean sound (evolving into Crowded House) ever since.. 💖🎶👌✨

Phill is a national treasure. That he wasn't invited to the Split Enz reunions was spiteful and mean.

Who owns the master tapes sessions and also the master tape including the demos,outtakes,and alternate version aka different version of the same song because I was blown away by another great divide is an outtake from the second thoughts session.
@MatineeIdyll129Ай бұрын
Whoever owns Mushroom's catalogue would no doubt own all that. Another Great Divide was recorded after the release of Second Thoughts and after Malcolm Green replaced Emlyn Crowther on drums
