Enjoy indeed, but in a macabre sort of way. File under fascinating Americana.

When I was a very young person I traveled from ABQ to BDL and back again several times in the 50's till we got a piper and could be done in a couple days if weather didn't strand us at some obscure airport or even on side of a road (not as many plane cops then and people most times were helpful instead of suing or crazy crap) getting back to the coolest bus ever made bathroom at the stairs and remember looking up at the stars in the let's call them Moon roof's I remember being stranded a couple times oh and cool things like getting white box lunches or dinners on the road those were the days, funny thing I worked on Greyhound buses in 80's in Roswell NMex doing rivets going to A& P School at Eastern University but I was really young back then but everything was wonderful when your a young kid! Hope this goes well I watched another video about same kind of bus people were building it in Canada and going to drive it to South America crazy!!! But really great to see them still running down the road.

Back in the mid 1960's , at the riverside bus station, there were 3 bus lines coming out of the bus station, Greyhound, trialways, and RTD Bus , the yesteryears was a great time....

Ugly and inefficient as Hell- the DD6 was too weak to handle inclines- hall Scott offered engines (gasoline) too thirsty- so he went To the company that supplied tucker (helo motors) and orders two in unison to switch on during hills and back to the hall Scott gas when non flat areas - totally retarded set up - Almost reminds me of A Rube Goldberg TYPE BUS

If you haven't heard this already...go watch the Bus Grease Monkey channel. He's worked on many of these Scenics, and can show you the tricks of DD maintenance and repair. Especially priming your fuel system from a potentially crudded up front fuel line. 👍

Your tank is probably clogged. You maybe better off using a outside portable fuel can. and let it run from there to get the bus inside We use to do that all the time and run the bus back to the garage to do repairs inside

You need to prime the fuel system. A cheap electric pump plumbed into the secondary filter and let it pump for a good long while through the filter.
@paulmontry1314
@paulmontry1314 Жыл бұрын
That’s our next step - John Hotvet gave us his pressurized diesel tank to use. Using an electric pump like you suggested, how do you feed it diesel? And if the issue is before the secondary filter, would you plumb it into the primary?

I have a valve system so I can switch between a gas can or the fuel tank. Sometimes it takes a long while to pull fuel from the tank. As mentioned, a clogged inlet or water in the tank or even a bad check valve in the primary filter housing.

Does anyone know how many Scenicruisers are left? Rode one once from Dallas, TX. to Atlanta, GA. I could really hear that engine. Read that Greyhound's drivers were not enamoured with them, and neither were Greyhound brass. The last straw for Greyhound, I read, was the Buffalo bus. Thereafter, the bus line wanted no more GM buses. The Scenicruiser was a striking sight, though. Read that the bus line wanted a design that recalled the domed streamlined passenger train cars of that era - mid 1950s.

I was on one back in 1972 that had some sort of drivetrain problem, you could hear the rpms rev up and very sloppy tranny shifting. I had just left Knoxville Tn. and by the time we got to Crossville Tn. The driver announced that we would be briefly stalled at that stop while we waited for arrival of different bus to get on for the rest of the trip.

Great video. My dad and my uncle converted one of the first 4104s which was donated by Greyhound as an experiment to test the interest in the RV market. Our family we traveled in it to FMCA rallies. It was such a hit, that they ‘acquired’ a scenic cruiser from Greyhound which they converted with much help from the Konigsedder family of the Chicago area. That family founded and still operates Liberty Coach- the premier converter of Prevosts today.
