@@strikemaster1 That's a "loaded" question depending on how you build your plane. Nosewheel (like mine) is heavier than tailwheel, paint is heavier than polish, etc. I've heard of Sonex coming in at 600 lbs (empty) while mine was 702 lbs. The builder can set the weight to anything they want however, Sonex recommends 1150 max weight. I set mine to 1200 lbs. Light sport can be up to 1320 lbs. If you are 80 kg (176 lbs), fly with only 1/2 fuel 8 gals (50 lbs), you'd have ~270 lbs for a second passenger in my plane. (the cockpit in an A model like mine would be tight!)
@kelleymp2 жыл бұрын
As for aerobatics, you'd need to create your own performance chart. Remember that with 2 people, you'd legally need to wear 'chutes. I think that would be problematic for 2 in the small cockpit. I limited my plane to single pilot only when doing acro, therefore no chute and more fuel!

Thanks! It took about 3 years and 1000 hrs. It would have been quicker if I'd not drifted away from the plans in several areas such as the swing-back canopy and split cowl. @larrywhalen5963 жыл бұрын
I've been working on a similar design, which is a little more streamlined by utilizing a NACA 23015 airfoil for the center section out to two thirds of the span which then changes to a 23018 with a small amount (poss. 5°) of washout, (to prevent tip stall), and given time shall build either a 1/4 or 1/3 Scale vehicle to test my concept. I'd like to know what rate the L/D (glide ratio) is for your design is, as well as total area for the craft. Intriguing and highly interesting concept, thanks for taking the next step into the future of what I believe could be an affordable homebuilt aircraft for those of us who have to eat more than once a week.
@lr216432 жыл бұрын
Many of your questions would be answered if you read this: wainfan.co/media/pavreport.pdf Using a rounded leading edge will likely mean very different behavior than the Facetmobile has. Not necessarily worse, but different. I imagine you won't be able to fly quite as slowly. Wondering why you want a thicker airfoil at the tips than in the middle.

Thanks for the video but my hair stood up when i saw the instrument panel. Pilots used to fly in clods before artificial horizon was common on aircraft. Also a lot of accidents happened in old times so it's difficult even if you practice. On the other hand I doubt you have de-icing equipment on a light vfr craft so climbing out trough the clouds to a safe altitude would be a risk and you'd still have to descend to land. You say you never felt unsafe, have you upgraded the instruments as you said you have planned to?

Up from the bottom.
@Sonex8152 жыл бұрын
At 0:27, you can see pilot standing in bottom door opening (no door), in front of the seat. In actual use, that is a somewhat unfavorable aspect of this design. Probably don't want the weight of a step structure over the top of the wing, and IIRC, if a top door popped open in flight, lift would be very unfavorably affected.

Boy...this was 4 yrs ago. Doesn't seem that long. I have a Jabiru 3300A installed and have been very happy with it. Those engine settings were at 2750 RPM, or about 75% power. I was going for better fuel burn for the 3 hr return flight. Normal cruise would be better than 150 MPH with a 5-6 GPH burn.

They are fun, inexpensive planes with few bad habits. They will float on a hot day, but not much. With the short wings, they will drop like a rock, so don't get behind the power curve.
