I learned how to knit at age 7. I learned how to knit English style. I’m now 64 years old and the arthritic hand and shoulders and such is not making knitting enjoyable. Although previously I attempted to knit continental style, the moment I started watching TV…or talking or reading a book, I defaulted back to English style. Now, I’m giving my all to knit continental style only. I think there’s hope for me! I’m sticking to it better! Maybe, because it is MUCH EASIER on the shoulder!

I just noticed in the final gusset rounds that I was knitting all rows ‘knit’ stitch and should have been knitting purl when you said Plain. Arghhhhh..
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 20 сағат бұрын
Hi, plain rows are all knit stitches. You were doing it right
@pjbarnett5756
@pjbarnett5756 18 сағат бұрын
But it looks like purl stitches….and does not look like yours. It’s bumps and not ‘V’s’.
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 15 сағат бұрын
Hm that’s so strange, if you’re working in the round for the gusset the knit rounds should look like v’s. If purling gives you a better look then you could try undoing a couple rows and redoing it that way
@pjbarnett5756

I’ll try that. It’s my first sock, so I might start the second one….No harm…theses are practice and your directions are excellent. I know I’ve done something wrong, I just don’t see yet.

They’re called chiaogoo red lace needles. I use them exclusively and love them (not sponsored), I get them off Amazon but they are sold in some smaller local yarn stores.

Do you have any legwarmer patterns? If not could you design some?
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 3 күн бұрын
I don’t have any, this is probably the closest to it. But you could modify this pattern to become leg warmers. If you cast on more stitches to fit your calf or wherever you want to wear them and knit them longer it would work out to be a leg warmer. Hope that helps!

Can you use any worsted weight yarn? I dont really want aryclic. I want to use a natural fiber. Can I use a worsted weight medium 4 in any fiber or does it have to be the same one you use? Beginner here. Also if the reccommend needle size on the back of the yarn is different than us 7 do I still use us 7 or the one the yarn reccomends? Thanks!!
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 4 күн бұрын
Hi, you can totally use a natural fiber. I would recommend a wool or wool blend for a hat just because cotton doesn’t usually have quite the same stretch/elasticity. And you should still be good with a US 7, the needle on the back of the yarn ball is more of a guideline. Hope that helps

so do you just do the „back“ as always and repeat the „front“ in every row?
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 4 күн бұрын
Kind of yes, you’ll work the back most likely of all purl stitches unless a pattern tells you otherwise. And you repeat the cable row every few rows instead of every right side, probably a cable row every 4 or 6 rows as an example.

Can you show the next step? I've joined in the round as you show here but the knitting is the hard part. The part join at the bottom (where we divided the stitches) prevents the needles from reaching so that I can knit the stitches.

How do you "pass all stitches over the first"? I'm so confused what the pattern I'm working with is asking for. I can't find any psso tutorials that leave the first stitch able to be used later...
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 18 сағат бұрын
Does your pattern have you slip a few stitches, knit 1 and then pass the slipped stitches over that knit stitch, all worked on the right hand needle? Or does it have you pass them before you even knit any stitches, all worked on the left hand needle?

I noticed that during the knit stitch, you’re winding the yarn around the needle in the opposite direction than most other tutorials I’ve watched. Why is that? Example: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5jTZYGIndGAesk&pp=ygUSSG93IHRvIGtuaXQgc3RpdGNo

Hi, the other tutorial you linked is knitting English style with the yarn held in the right hand. We’re both wrapping the yarn around the needle from front to back, it just looks different because the yarn is having to move around more when coming from the right hand.

I noticed that using this method decreased my tension by a lot and made my stitches looser than before. Was I knitting too tightly before/ do you have any tips for that?
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 10 күн бұрын
It’s probably that you’re not used to the newer method that makes the stitches looser. It’s not that you were knitting too tightly, that was just your normal tension with a different method of knitting. Your tension may get tighter with practice or it may stay looser with this new method. It’s hard to say without some time spent using the new to you method. Whichever method you enjoy working is the best one, and if it means your stitches are looser you may just have to switch to a smaller needle size

Thank you for your video it is helpful. Please could you help me I cannot understand the word method. This is part of the sleeve. What are those numbers sizes to choose from or I have to work them in Decrease Row (RS): K3, K2 TOG, knit to the last 5sts: SSK, K3. This ok understand This part it doesn't make sense to me. Could you please explain to me. Word 11 (9,7,5) [5,5] plain stockinette rows. Work Section A -7 (1,3,11)[7,2] times in total, resulting in 84(10,24,66)[42,12] total rows. Thank you in advance
@TheBlueMouseKnits
@TheBlueMouseKnits 10 күн бұрын
Hi, I have a video linked to this one that goes over the sizing structure and how to read it. But in short: whichever size you choose is how many instructions you count over. So if you chose size 4 then you would count to the 4th instruction in the sequence. For example “work 11 (9, 7, 5)[5, 5] plain rows” If you chose size 4 you would work 5 plain rows because it’s the 4th instruction when read from left to right. Hope that makes more sense, but if not look for the attached video about the prep information for this vidoe

@TheBlueMouseKnits

Hi, yes you can knit this with size 8 needles. It will change the size a bit, making it smaller in circumference so a bit closer to your neck. But you can always steam it and stretch it out after the fact if you find it too narrow.

I made a very simple beanie that was slightly too short and I was very nervous it would just go into the “failed project” pile but no, I can just lengthen it and all will be well with the world. I knew deep down this must be possible since knitting is just a combination of knotted yarn but I had no idea it would be this simple. You saved Christmas. This hat has been remade three times now but I finally think this one is my last attempt if this video really does allow me to just add on a couple rows to the end. Thank you!
