That was cool! Thanks for taking us along with you. Is the Mt Potts Ski Area still going? Or is that slip on the 4WD track mean it's game over? Cheers from Wellington!😀

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. It’s definitely still a ski area, these days it’s Heli skiing mainly but if you were keen enough you could walk or skin to the top and ski it, just no more vehicle access.

Had a great couple of nights here with a friend- went from 32 degrees on day walking in to 8 degrees and freezing wind and rain next day! Basic but good shelter, water supply a river a couple of minutes behind the hut. Bring a tent because can be very busy with TA hikers

Hi Verity, thought I’d pop over and see your video style after seeing your comment on my reel, thanks. Firstly, this is a great vlog if it’s a personal video journal, but Wendy (comment below) has provided some honest feedback (most people don’t bother) Rather than posting a series of random scenes meaningful to you, try to stitch them together as a story to make them more meaningful to us, the viewer. Talking to the audience can help achieve that, wish you well, it’s a tough gig this KZbin journey, I’ve struggled from the get go 👋
@nzhikingadventures4 ай бұрын
@@OutdoorsmanDave thank 😀 I really appreciate all feedback and I take it all in to try and make my content better for all viewers. I really appreciated Wendy’s comment and if you watch my Kakapo hut loop video I’ve made it into a story with quite a bit of narration.
@johnmead84374 ай бұрын
@@nzhikingadventures Subtitles and actual soundtrack has potential, many insert intrusive "music" and some narration can detract, some is informative. When panning camera shots the focus suffers if done too fast. This vid is one of the better ones showing a trip and captures the terrain encountered etc well. A few wider perspective scene views if available will enhance it further.

I used to live in Kokatahi. The entire Westland province (the coast) is beautiful but Lake Kaniere, Kokatahi, Woodstock, Mahinapua and so many areas in that general part of the Hokitika area are breath taking. Looking over the bridge into the Hoki gorge at turquoise, milky water is something you never readily forget.

Great valley, the Kakapo. It's fairly untouched, and they have been trapping there for a couple of decades, so there are a few whio/blue ducks in the river. I did that circuit in April 2023 when it was just recently recut. Really memorable countryside, vegetation and birdlife, xcept for the bush smash between the end of the trapline and the start of the climb to Kakapo Saddle. The bit between the Little Wanganui swingbridge and the old hut site was like going through a two-hour carwash with all the water held by the ferns. Hard to believe the Wangapeka used to be kept at the Heaphy Track standard, but it has been generally abandoned by DOC, and Taipo Hut is fairly sad and needs some work. You can cut out a night by missing out Trevor Carter Hut, of course. I think it's a great loop, if you are prepared for the two hours of bush bashing.
@nzhikingadventures7 ай бұрын
Cheers, there was a DOC crew at Trevor Carter and Helicopter Flat doing hut and track maintenance, they were only there due to funding and thought it would be at least another 2 years before they are back (maybe). The Kakapo bush bash was challenging to say the least, we couldn’t understand why that was the only section that hadn’t been marked in some way.
