A lot of people don’t realize that on Broadway and with theatres in general, the audio from the actress’ mic is compressed so that the louder parts are softer and the softer parts are louder. If this was performed with a stage mic live, it would sound great. Don’t know why people are hating on this

All of you judging without seeing it live😂 The audience was literally in awe, she flew into the celing which opened. Everyone literally sat still for a second when it was time for pause, it was so epic. The whole set design is insane

The bridge is already like 3 meter above the stage and when she is singing the final part she is easily 12-15 meters up

Yes, and the angle of the phone camera in this recording and the sound quality of it, doesn't give the live experience any justice! Her voice was really powerful, sitting there in the theater - here it drowns in the orchestration. And you can't see the entire stage either or the dynamic of what went on there - as well as in the salon when she came out over the audience - from this strange angle. But I guess that people who are familiar with the Broadway and West End production sees this and goes: This looks different, so it must be shit! And they judge the entire production based on this recording, which isn't fair. If you look at the bootlegs of the Broadway version here on KZbin, it also looks plain and cheap, in comparison to when you see it live.

To all of those who says hanging in wires takes away from the magic of flying - On Broadway and West End we can totally see the elevator covered with fabric!

the illusion still works better. For this to have worked better, she should've come in right at the front, the bridge should've been lower and she should've moved around more. She basically looks like a brick being hung over the audience instead of a girl who is flying on a broom. I say, if you gotta make her be pulled on wires, make her sit on the broom, makes the illusion work better. If the dress is too long and she HAS to hold it, then at least make her have long floaty motions like in Hamburg so it looks like she's floating at least. With a lift, motions aren't a problem because due to how it works, the illusion will stay whether the actress moves or not (and actually, she has to be careful in HOW she moves, cause some poses might break said illusion). I'd say there's few actresses who completely mastered motions on the lift, one of them being Idina, of course. With 2 wires, the illusion isn't broken as easily, so the actress SHOULD move around, because then on the opposite, by seeing her whole body, not moving will break the illusion

@@imAoKay87 I still saw the elevator and the fabric - and I know the actress isn't actually flying in either show. Did you watch both live? Or are you judging this production from this clip alone? Defying Gravity is - in my opinion - an impresssive number in any production I've seen. This was different to me, since I expected her to go up on a lift like in West End or Broadway, but she came out over the audience and then went up through the roof top of the theater in green smoke, which I wasn't expecting after seeing the London and New York shows - and the whole audience was shocked. It looks tacky here, but it was amazing live.

For people saying it’s bad like try to sing while in a tight harness and plus this is a low budget and they did great with it! This video doesn’t do the production justice at all. It’s a lot better in person.
