All of you judging without seeing it live😂 The audience was literally in awe, she flew into the celing which opened. Everyone literally sat still for a second when it was time for pause, it was so epic. The whole set design is insane
@WeWofficialАй бұрын
The bridge is already like 3 meter above the stage and when she is singing the final part she is easily 12-15 meters up

Yes, and the angle of the phone camera in this recording and the sound quality of it, doesn't give the live experience any justice! Her voice was really powerful, sitting there in the theater - here it drowns in the orchestration. And you can't see the entire stage either or the dynamic of what went on there - as well as in the salon when she came out over the audience - from this strange angle. But I guess that people who are familiar with the Broadway and West End production sees this and goes: This looks different, so it must be shit! And they judge the entire production based on this recording, which isn't fair. If you look at the bootlegs of the Broadway version here on KZbin, it also looks plain and cheap, in comparison to when you see it live.

I understand that people think this looks underwhelming and at first I did too. I’m a huge Wicked fan, and my expectations were sky high when I went to see it this weekend. And when she lifts off it’s just her, glinda and the guards on the bridge, and i thought “meh” but when she soars out over the audience and the ends with a bang and she disappears in smoke at the very top of the auditorium, that was just insane in real life, and as she flies, more guards and ozians and such enter the stage as well, so yeah it is way better in real life than it appears here. (I do however still prefer the non-replica shows more though, but that’s just me being a traditional lil person lmao)

I think it´s great that one sees the actual theatre machinery work. They could easily have changed it into screens as they did in The Hunchback some years ago but have choosen to stay classic. One should also know that the opera house in Göteborg have three productions going over the same period. One evening they give an opera, next a dance show and next a musical. Each night the stage and the orchestra pit is different.

I’ve went to this show twice and the actors are just outstanding! Such a powerful production.
@JLuvsWicked93JRL8 ай бұрын
I think if they lowered the bridge as Elphaba flew up, a little bit more light and smoke effects and it could’ve been a bit better. Having her just hover there at eye level with Glinda and the guards is what’s killing the vibe, it doesn’t look like she’s flying, just floating. Honestly I’d love to see an Elphaba pull a P!NK and sing on silks. THAT would give the illusion of flight.

To all of those who says hanging in wires takes away from the magic of flying - On Broadway and West End we can totally see the elevator covered with fabric!
@imAoKay872 ай бұрын
It’s about 9 million times trickier to clock the lift vs these wires is you’re a first time viewer of the show lol.
@AtticusThings2 ай бұрын
It’s way, way, way, harder to see the lift than the wires.
@veraelphie03062 ай бұрын
the illusion still works better. For this to have worked better, she should've come in right at the front, the bridge should've been lower and she should've moved around more. She basically looks like a brick being hung over the audience instead of a girl who is flying on a broom. I say, if you gotta make her be pulled on wires, make her sit on the broom, makes the illusion work better. If the dress is too long and she HAS to hold it, then at least make her have long floaty motions like in Hamburg so it looks like she's floating at least. With a lift, motions aren't a problem because due to how it works, the illusion will stay whether the actress moves or not (and actually, she has to be careful in HOW she moves, cause some poses might break said illusion). I'd say there's few actresses who completely mastered motions on the lift, one of them being Idina, of course. With 2 wires, the illusion isn't broken as easily, so the actress SHOULD move around, because then on the opposite, by seeing her whole body, not moving will break the illusion
@kristianliljegren76142 ай бұрын
@@imAoKay87 I still saw the elevator and the fabric - and I know the actress isn't actually flying in either show. Did you watch both live? Or are you judging this production from this clip alone? Defying Gravity is - in my opinion - an impresssive number in any production I've seen. This was different to me, since I expected her to go up on a lift like in West End or Broadway, but she came out over the audience and then went up through the roof top of the theater in green smoke, which I wasn't expecting after seeing the London and New York shows - and the whole audience was shocked. It looks tacky here, but it was amazing live.

The staging is really awkward and really kills the vibe this song is supposed to have. The only part I liked was the ending when she disappeared through a cloud of smoke in the ceiling. I thought that was very effective. But having the witches on some kind of bridge for the whole song and then Glinda and two guards just awkwardly standing there still completely lit as elphaba flies just doesn’t make a lot of sense

While the staging is abit of a letdown (aside from Elphaba vanishing in a cloud of smoke), I'm all in for the massive orchestral score. So grand, I love it. Plus, Feline's glissando at 7:11 gives me serotonin.
@xandercrew60888 ай бұрын
Anytime strings are used for live flight it removes the wow factor and mystery that this moment needs. The newer recreations of wicked that make no attempt to hide the flying mechanism is a total disaster. We’ve all seen a human get raised by strings, it’s not magical when you know right away how it’s done.

I dunno this is a bit underwhelming. And this stage looks more like it’s built for concerts.
@kristianliljegren76144 ай бұрын
I think it's the recording, that does it injustice. I saw it live and it was spectacular. People in the audience gasped when she suddenly took off the stage and flew over the audience, to then disappear through the roof at the end.

For people saying it’s bad like try to sing while in a tight harness and plus this is a low budget and they did great with it! This video doesn’t do the production justice at all. It’s a lot better in person.

@jordysegs89 Agree, this bridge-option wasn't well thought out at all. They did a mistake of having a REALLY big centerpiece that was used all the time so when it came to this scene they where out of options.. Too few guards.. Elpheba's reveal to flying came from the side where she wasn't seen. She should have come out from the centerpiece.. Mdm Morrible should only have been on tv-screens not on stage in order to give Elphie center stage.
@dyland.47878 ай бұрын
Honestly was expecting them to use that in a really cool way. Have the ring of lights illuminate her with amazing beams and have flying rigs from behind or something…instead she glides from the side to center with a very obvious flying rig? Odd. Plus having the guards and Glinda be only marginally lower than her is just weird. The entire scene is a misfire
@ANightworkerslife8 ай бұрын
@@dyland.4787 for me, this centerpiece should definitely been used for defying gravity. My other option would have to come up flying from the floor in front of it (where they hoisted up the big front piece) then let her fly out. The other place is in No good deed, they had her in the centerpiece, well enough. They should have added a second levitation here, when she is freneticly throwing spells, have her start to levitate in green light like as if her power is overpowering her. Also levitate the book. This would have made an incredible impact. Not fly away though, just softly cone down to the ground again
