As a result of the crise, we had by 2010 the Dodd Frank act setting guidance for banks and clients, aiming to reduce the many risks such as default, liquidity, capital, default ( credit).

On the technical level, giving a loan is always money creation out of thin air. That's just how accounting works and nobody can dispute that. With that being said, this is only the first step. As the customer uses the money to pay someone who has an account at another bank, the bank most of the times has to transfer central bank money. This means the bank has to refinance this liquidity outflow. Of course, on a practical level, the bank first attracts funding and then makes the loan, so that no immediate liquidity problems are created. This can be done via issuing equity or issuing debt. There is a good paper on this from the Bank of England called "Money Creation in a modern economy".

So, is money creation out of thin air a product of digitalization? My thought is that 200 years ago, you had to receive physical money when taking out a loan, whereas today it exists merely in the cloud.

Very controversial topic indeed. But I share your sentiments. All loans have to be funded by real money. Otherwise it will just be a journal entry.

Everything is just a journal entry. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

Thanks Moorad - so based on your interpretation of EBA guidelines would CSRBB NIIS apply to a fixed rate HQLA investment portfolio? Or, if i understood correctly only EVE would need to be monitored?

This is in reference to the currencies. 100% of negative impact in one currency can be offset by 50% positive impact in another.

Hi Sir, I have been following your posts and videos for a couple of months now. You talked here about the modelling of the behavioural tenor of funding. Do you have some recommendation, perhaps your own book, on the modelling and replicating of non maturing products?
