How to I get the hat to harden I’ve waited a day or 2 and it’s stall just as soft as it was when I started

Instead of using the Polyacrylic finish, you can spray it with shellac. Shellac is food safe once it's completely dry

I decided to give poplar a chance for a couple reasons beyond what you've laid out: 1. I work in a plant that frequently throws out broken pallets, most of which are non-toxic and safe to use, and are most commonly made of poplar. Who doesn't like free wood? 2. I was at a relative's house while their poplar trees were in full bloom and i was fascinated by the flowers. Gorgeous blooms. Wanted to learn more about the trees and found that some people swear by the wood for light duty stuff and now i do too.

You could use lacquer or Silicone to spray, paint, or soak the the plank or finish mug... To make it very strong, waterproof, and absolutely non-toxic, because lacquer is a tree sap and silicone is sand base, as far as My research goes... Hope this tip helps... TheoryMaK15....

I just got some cherry wood from an old cherry tree in my garden.. Unfortunately part of the tree got some wood bugs and died so I am looking for tips what can I do with the wood. When I first cut it I could not believe how beautiful it was.. When it comes to the thing why there is plenty of cherry wood available in Home Depot in California I do think it is because there are many cherry orchards there.. So once the trees get older and stop producing to the liking of the owner, they cut them (sad) and sell them for wood and start a new plantation.

Is there a way to clean it out? Should do that yearly. There should be a side that opens on hinges or the roof should come off.

Why don’t you do it with a circular saw, anyone working with wood has one, or a jig saw!

I've been saving up my bacon grease to make soap with. Now, if I mix sawdust with it too.... That is the most American thing I have ever heard! Yeah, I'm doing it. Gonna use some earthy essential oils with it. Maybe some patchouli and aspen.

Surprisingly good results. My uncle builds his own beehives and uses school glue so I knew it worked good enough, but didn't know it was this strong.

As a wood turner, I love turning eastern red cedar. As long as I have very sharp tools, use the highest lathe speed I can safely, and take my time, I can turn out some very nice projects. Here in VA, I can get it free from my property or from neighbors. It's my second favorite wood to turn. Cherry is my first. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾

I made this stool yesterday. It was a really fun project and it was my first woodworking project. Took me all day to make and I think I used every tool I own. In my opinion, and more importantly my wife’s, it was well done. My wife wanted it to be her stool and she didn’t want any finish on it. So it’s done and has that IKEA look to it. I just kinda made up the measurements as I went along and just made sure the pieces were the same size. I used my planer and pocket hole jig for the first time. I’m sure if I did it again it would go faster. Thanks for the video it was really inspiring.

I buy my cherry on second hand market, old furniture for a cheap price. I use the cherry for shipmodeling. It is a beautiful wood to use. Even to use for carving. And I agree it burns easy when you saw it or sand it machinal. Thanks for this informative video.

Do you spray with a shellac after getting the shape you want? My 20 year old 'Australian Outback' hat is looking pretty beat and needs some seroius blocking, stiffening. I was thinking of steaming, reshaping, but was concerned it still might look pretty limp and bash not so defined. Any advice appreciated!

Just being picky at this point but they are called plugs when they are solid tunnels when there's a hole in the middle and saddles when they only sit in the bottom like a horse saddle this is an awesome video either way keep in mind to measure the length of the plugs too not just gauge size to make sure the plugs aren't too long now I need to make myself some plugs... oh and certain woods cause allergic reactions too.

We have been lied to by the wood industry. There is no wood species known as "Eastern Red Cedar"! "Eastern Red Cedar" is a misnomer. It is a Juniper, specifically "juniperius americana". If you do not believe me, look it up in a reputable reference book or look on Wikipedia. And we all should know this and refer to it as it is, Juniper.
