For anyone wondering, this is where Lea Michelle came from. She starred in this small musical that started off broadway and caught fire, moving to the Eugene O'Neill. 2 years later, she was starring in Glee. Add in John Gallager Jr and Jonathan Groff and this was one of the best Musicals I was able to see with the original cast back in '07. So stylized, but the cast absolutely devoured. It won best musical 5 minutes after this.

Oh my god, 2:47-2:49! Groff jumps his legs together from separate chairs super high and then lands all the way down on the ground, as smooth as a cat, ON HIS KNEES. I've rewound it so many times to see it happen and it still looks impossible. Ok so it's not quite landing on the knees, it's landing on his toes for a millisecond and then immediately gliding down to his knees, but the level of strength and control is insane

As much as I love this casting of Spring Awakening, I wish that they cast actual teen agers in the roles. Its easier to feel empathy for the characters when they are actually your age instead of adults pretending to be your age. I just think many of the scenes (especially mamma who bore me) would be so much more powerful if it weren't 20-30 year olds pretending to be 14.

Some of them were teenagers still

I think the issue was that they were quite young when they were first cast and when it started off-Broadway, but obviously had aged by the time it went to Broadway and became mainstream. It was actually somewhat controversial for them to do some of the scenes originally as they were so young (particularly Lea), if I recall correctly

They were all under the age of 25 when it opened on Broadway

Lea was 14 when she was cast but it took four years to get on Broadway and then at the bulk of its success, she was about 20. So they did but then... it just took so long to come together like all Broadway shows.
