Can I apply this system to a metal roof

This product is designed for shingle roofing. There are other options for metal such as Attic Breeze solar fans, or perforated z-bar if you are doing a standing seam metal roofing system.

Tiles and slate are to keep the water out, the under felt is really a dust sheet and a temporary tarpaulin.

LMAO ! Instalation failure! No battons! Code says there must be min. 1*2" minimum wood battons ubder flat tile, with gaps in battons every 4'

Thank you for calling him out because I have a flat tile roof in Arizona built in 2018 and I was worried. IF battons are used flat and s style roofs must be equally good.

Your “underlayment” is an old school built up roof clean and prime the surface at the valley, then install a new layer in hot or cold process. Or a layer of torch down polyester reinforced would be ideal

Metal on top of the felt, not underneath.

This underlay is prehistoric!! I wonder how old the roof is. In the uk we had an underlay similar to that called 1F but that was donkeys years ago. Now it’s all breather membranes n always hang tiles to battens makes no sense laying them to the underlay. Also, where’s the lead slate for the pipe??? They’ve just blathered it with mortar👀 yikes! Not the way it should be done

Thanks for the video, we use a very similar flat tile(12x16") to what you have shown here, it looks like there is not enough head-lap on those tiles we usually allow 4" of headlap and no less than a 22.5 degree pitch on the roof and the under felt would not be depended upon to weather the roof, I agree with you that profile tiles are better that flat because the interlocking channel is positioned higher up and so water flow cannot enter the channel as it can with the lower positioned channel on a flat tile.

The American way of roofing is strange. fixing concrete tiles directly on to the roofing paper is a long term recipe for trouble in UK we fit batten from ridge to gutter .Then battens at fixed gauge parallel so the tiles never touch the paper far better system. The proper way

I agree with ye, plus it looks like thers not enough head lap on those tiles, if you look at the water mark it's only barely covering the nail holes, and who uses a blob of rendering to flash around a pipe.

@@neilkennykenny4113 that’s not the normal way of doing tile in America. In Arizona tile roofs have a proper lead flashing around each vent pipe. They also use wooden battens under the rows of tile like in the UK.

We have a similar tile in England stonewold or Marley modern I’ve just looked at a similar problem on a roof and in my opinion the tile isn’t the problem it’s the gauge dropping the gauge an inch will solve it especially on a lower pitch roof it might add a couple of course’s and the extra weight needs to be taken into account

We ended up replacing the lead plumbing vent flashing and re-sealing the area using modified bull and membrane.

Tiles and slates are the most common roof coverings where I live but you'd never see a valley like that it needs a lead valley or other suitable metal or plastic to carry the water down to the gutter

Sweet shit. I don’t get these where I am….. Got a slate tile roof once, and that’s even a rarity around here the city’s heritage dept was up my ass about materials being used etc. It was same as open valley shingle roof just copper not steel. This is a cool detail to see.
