Hello susie, have you decided to finish your education or will you be planning to apply for a PhD. If you are planning to apply for a PhD in mathematics then it may be informative to make a video on it!

I will like to add that if you are a current student and you're looking at modules for previous years, you are able to get the moodle page for later years. You go on "course search" and search for any module you like that you are able to do.

great video! So far, the most useful one ! Are there blocks just for postgraduates at Whitefields or all students are randomly living in blocks? Also, how are the bedroom walls ?😂😂, I've heard it's super thin.

There's something I was interested in learning about but I'm not exactly sure what module it would be under or what year it would be taught. (I'm hoping to come into first year in september) It would be using group theory to make faster algorithms via graph isomorphisms, I haven't done computer science at a level but I did decision maths as an option for further maths I didn't enjoy decision maths amazingly but using a mathmatical idea like group theory forces a much deeper understanding than just remembering a bunch of algorithms. So could you tell me what year something like this would be taught and any pre-requisite modules you reccomend to get this deeper understanding? Thanks!
@siyuanhuo730111 ай бұрын
First of all, I hope you managed to get in. As for the actual modules, I'm only in second year so I wouldn't have the best information but in the second you have a module called groups and rings that helps develop a good understanding of how group theory works. Judging by the content from the module websites, I would like to say some good modules to take during 3rd year would be Mathematics of Machine Learning and introduction to group theory. Group Theory itself is a module during 4th year. However, note that during 3rd and 4th years, like Susie said, you get 100% free choice but this also means that if a module only has 5 people taking it, they might not run it.

Hi Susie, Thanks a lot for the information you have provided. Would definitely help me in my decision making related to accommodation. Just needed an insight on this 40 Weeks accommodation policy (The Summer Vacation Period) for this particular Whitefields accommodation Could you please help me with that ? Just a suggestion - Please provide atleast a few of your social media details. So that one can contact on a quicker basis 😅

hi! i'm hoping to study maths at warwick this year and just wanted to ask how much do you think maths entrance exams (TMUA/MAT/STEP) matter in helping you through first year? i got a contextual offer (A*A*A) that doesn't require any entrance exams but i'm worried this will put me behind those who have had scored highly on those tests. i did the MAT but it did not go well at all, so i'll just be going in based on my a levels only (maths further maths and chemistry). would you say the course is still managable even without entrance exams? thank you so much for your time!!
@thenoobalmighty8790 Жыл бұрын
Yes dont worry, maths degree is always hard. Start studying early or in advance or something. Like basic group theory, linear algebra, analysis n stuff
@susiegabriel1032 Жыл бұрын
Hi Aki! I actually didn't complete any entrance exams either when I joined Warwick. I started practising for STEP (which was definitely a mixed bag for me) but ended up not taking it, and I've found the course entirely manageable without taking entrance exams!
@susiegabriel1032 Жыл бұрын
Warwick currently makes a fair few offers to people which don't include entrance exams (eg A*A*A*, A*A*AA or contextual offers) so you definitely won't be alone in not taking entrance exams. The course at Warwick is designed to be useful for people who've come from all different backgrounds, so I found we were all brought to the same level over the first year!

For the past few days, I've been scouring the internet to find something on Whitefields. This was amazing! I can't thank you enough cus you have just made it a lot easier for me to decide. I just have one more question, could you kindly tell me what's the average monthly expenditure (apart from tuition and accommodation) for a student studying in Warwick I'm trying to plan my finances and get a rough estimate of my living expenses for the upcoming months. Any suggestions or inputs would be really helpful. Thank you :) Also for anyone seeing this comment: I am joining Warwick this coming fall to do my Master's in Electrical Power Engineering, so if you wish to connect pls reply to this comment and I'll reach out to you!

It's strange that there would be an Abstract Algebra module first year, but none for Multivariable Calculus. In fact, when I was looking at their website, the groupings were very vague like Algebra II, which could mean anything. Turns out they even group Linear Algebra and Abstract Algebra under the same umbrella when they are completely different areas. I just got my offer today, but it seems I'll have to dig deeper into the structure of the modules before I make a decision.

Thank you so much for this video! This was very informative and useful for me as an aspiring maths student so I highly appreciate it. Do you have plans on continuing this and doing videos for how you found your second and third year modules as well? I think that would be very much helpful. Also, it's so great how we seem to have similar interests as well, so this was a particularly useful video for me on a personal level. Loved this video! I'm an aspiring maths student myself so I'm very glad I came across your channel. It's ridiculous how few maths KZbinrs there are lol. I would like to add though that I have heard that it's better to apply for masters if you're relying on student finance. Because it's much easier to reduce your funding from four years to three years than it is to increase it from three years to four. That being said, I'm really looking forward to more videos from you! Would appreciate a video detailing the modules you take at uni both maths and otherwise as I usually find those videos interesting and also helpful. Have a nice day ☺️

You're right, I wish there were more maths KZbinrs out there! The video about my module choices is a really good idea, actually, I might do that. Obviously I can't speak for everyone and I recommend people do their own research, but personally, I've had no problems at all with the funding? It took me about 5 minutes to change it on the student finance website, and after that I've been fine :D

Hello, if I may ask seeing the pride flag on ur desk, how is it being out at warwick? Is it safe and welcoming or not? And is there a significant number of queer people to the point that u will easily meet them at uni events and halls and such? Because the more I look into warwick the more I like the course specifically but I saw a poll from lile 8 years ago where it said only 4% of student identified as lgbt compared to 10% at edinburgh and 17% at cambridge, so I am a bit worried that I may not feel safe, as even though I dont "look like a lesbian" to have been targeted before like some of my friends im my area, I would still like to feel safe if I ever got into a relationship. And ofc thank you for the content u put out, ive found it very helpful
@susiegabriel10323 жыл бұрын
Hi! From my experiences, it's always been very safe, but I guess that's harder for me to judge as I pass quite easily as cishet - there's been the occasional bit of ignorance/ misunderstanding but nothing that made me feel unsafe. I've met loads of lgbt people here so far - I'm in both the Pride and Sapphic societies, so meeting them is obviously quite easy through that, but even in other societies and in Whitefields last year, there were lots of us around!

Hi, Thanks for this video! How is maths at Warwick? Is it very difficult? Did you do any admissions tests and how did you do in them? Are there people who didn't do STEP or other admissions tests but are doing well in the degree? I read on the student room that one person thinks you should only go to Warwick if you get a 1/S in STEP, do you think that's true? Sorry for this overload of questions :)
@susiegabriel10323 жыл бұрын
Hiya - sorry for the late reply! It's tricky to say whether it's "hard" as that obviously means different things to different people, but so far I've definitely found it something that I have to work at, but is never impossible. I personally didn't take any admission tests, getting in purely based on my a levels, and I've been meeting all the targets I have for myself; I'd say that the person on student room is completely wrong! Warwick wouldn't let you in if they thought you were going to struggle on the course, so if you make the grades you'll be fine, no matter whether those grades include the STEP or not :D

From looking online I cant find much on the quality of lecturers or like the vibe of the people that go there, if u dont mind me asking.
@susiegabriel10323 жыл бұрын
I don't really regret anything about coming here, apart from some of the ways the university has handled political issues on campus, but that's clearly a very personal thing and you'd have to do your own research on that I guess. And as to the vibe of people, that's a tough one to answer - there seems to be a massive range! As with any uni (I assume) you're going to get a big mix, so you should always be able to find your crowd. The lecturers have been very good so far, with maybe a couple here and there who I'm not such a fan of? Again, there's a massive range, so whilst I, say, aren't such a fan of lecturers who go into extreme depth about some of the topics, others might appreciate the extra detail. They've all been very friendly and clearly know what they're talking about though, and I've had some really passionate lecturers who have properly inspired me.
