I'm not sure the give-go should be split into these 3 ways explained here (open smooth, open delayed, break side). Yet there's some really useful info here, like the thing he says they (on Sockeye) called "The Move" (6:00), which opens up the break side give-go by having the receiver ready to receive by moving towards the disc, creating separation from their mark. That's not something I see much today. And at 8:38, his point about "riding the hip", which is just sealing but not giving up that positioning too early. Ride it and get as many yards as you can before going into the open side. But several things aren't covered which are important to setting up and running give-gos. 1. Give-gos against FM. FM is the give-go killer. Watch Bravo play Truck Stop in 2022 Nats and there's no flow. FM does two things: a. it stops the open side give-go with a force switch, so that if the thrower throws a dump into the open side and runs to the open side, the receiver's defender switches the force, making it now a run to the break side and he's able to shut down that continuation. b. it stops wheel/jam cuts (the throw to a 45 back open side reset that goes to the break side) by switching defenders so that the thrower's defender drops off early and takes the receiver to stop the quick break side continuation. 2. Where the receiver is and is coming from. The receiver can be a. 45 back stationary, b. 0 degrees lateral/horizontal, c. FOS or ahead of the disc and come towards the backfield. The thing with these scenarios is that it changes the direction of attack of the give-go. If the receiver is in the backfield, stationary, the direction of attack is going to be lateral. You aren't going to be able to score a goal with this move alone. It doesn't move downfield/upline. And that's the key. If you want to set up the upline strike, you need to move the disc laterally on the first throw, and that requires the receiver to really actually start at the FOS in a vert/endzone stack ahead of the thrower. That's how you get that sweet sweet give-go goal. Note that if you move the disc ahead on the first throw, then you have too many yards to gain when running for the give-go, so it's really easy for the defense to read the play and switch or poach from the stack downfield. 3. Break side give-gos aren't really a thing. They're exceptionally uncommon despite what he says. (Although he does cover how you can move back to the open side from this at 5:35.) 4. You can initiate open side give-gos with a reset from the break side. Set up back 45 on the _break side_, like they have been in this video, but have the receiver initiate the run before the throw goes up. Now the initial thrower can go upline freely in the open side because his defender is on the wrong side. (There's a great AUDL Cohen's Cut vid on this, kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6O0m2OfnpKAq5o)

0:57, only two reasons? seems like an oversimplification. Power position from an upline and the break flow off the swing continuation are good reasons to use a reset anytime

Good video. The fun thing about ultimate is there are so many possible throws. I noticed this video only covered Handler-Handler give go's where the second handler is already in position diagonally behind the first. It would be cool to also cover more flat-footed dump give-go's that occur on more dynamic plays when everything is sloppy. I find one of the most powerful throws in ultimate is when a handler receives a dump immediately from the person he just threw to, because it sets up 1 or 2 unguarded throwing opportunities, frequently on the break side. It's something we teach religiously at our pickup community which allows newer players a super easy way to participate in higher level offensive play. (Beau Kittridge is a good example of someone who commonly does this)

Hi a genuine question for experts here - is it possible to avoid noise when you carry out this exercise? Especially when it came to pivoting and faking? For example - if you have neighbour, below your unit and you have to do this constantly (assuming the soundproof isn't awesome) in the dead of the night - say past midnight?

Not digging using this on the break side. Just looks like you open up way too much on the break side for the offense. That lady in yellow will get open sometimes even though she didn't this time, or she can turn and cut deep (she shouldn't have stopped like she did) and threaten a nice strike with a clear lane... I always use this on the open side. It stops those upfield throws while trapping them on the sideline. Resets can then be marked extra hard for a few seconds forcing terrible throws.

I think the reset's position is more based on what side the force is rather than the position of the disc on the field, so even in the center of the field, the reset would still set up on the break side.
@Gameboob
@Gameboob Жыл бұрын
@@louisdouvillebeaudoin4035 I think Mr F's question is regarding a vert stack where you only have one handler reset. If the disc is in the centre, which side should they position themselves on? Which is more advantageous? I don't have an answer for that, but perhaps one thing to note is that the disc can move so quickly that you don't always get to choose. If you throw a reset to the open side, you should probably just stay on the break side... But if you reset off the forced sideline to the middle, are you going to move to the open side or the break side? If it means cutting off the next throw, don't do that option. So it seems pretty situational. But I don't really know.

"Little physical contact never hurt anybody" - I am really annoyed by this statement! Besides these videos being really great and informative about Ultimate Frisbee, I think it's just bad Spirit to tell people that contact is okay. You are teaching people to play Frisbee and keeping up the Spirit is much more important than being good at the sport. Contact happens. And I won't call a foul if they don't run me over. But teaching it, is not okay!
@Gameboob
@Gameboob 11 ай бұрын
This sport will move more and more towards basketball levels of contact, which is a non-contact sport technically. If you want to play this game at a competitive level, then yea, a little contact is ok. No concussions, no arm breaking, no slide tackles. Just a little bodying for positioning. That's all. But yea, the bigger guy will usually win. Fair or not, that's competitive sport.
