Sub'd. Found via David Hilowitz Music Panasonic Do-Re-Me video, he showed a clip from this. What a cool little synth, love the straightforward UI, very good for learning synthesis too. You're right about the fast LFO.

GREAT information - so much appreciated! I've always wondered if there's something wrong with my unit due to that hanging note issue. Good to know it's a feature. Also poly trombone on my unit sounds very different, kind of muffled. I suspected there was something wrong with it, now confirmed. Thanks again for a great demonstration!
@ohm_studi_ohm
@ohm_studi_ohm Ай бұрын
Glad it helped. About the poly trombone you can open the unit and try setting the 2 trimmers that set the poly section sounds, the 2 side by side in the middle of the pcb underneath the keyboard, these sets attack and level of the poly sound but they have an effect on timbre too. But if the trumpet sound is same as in the demo and the « brillance » fader has an effect than probably issue is elsewhere. Check for lose wire. Basically the poly section is the main large pcb underneath the keyboard.

Also on my unit first 5 (from the left) mono presets are noticeably louder than the rest. It's not a big deal, just something that I haven't been able to fix...

I assume this is a beta test? I noticed there's some (RFI?) interference - example at 03:18 ... I assume it's from the synth and wonder if looking at the calibration as well as the grounding and shielding side of things could reduce that? You may have spotted that and fed that back to Bob Grieb. Anyways - mega hats off to Tauntek - this will save a lot of battery damaged Poly61's from the scrap heap! And the finer resolution, programming extras, and midi cc possibilities... what can I say? Superb!!
@ohm_studi_ohm
@ohm_studi_ohm Ай бұрын
What you hear is the dco bleeding or probably more exactly the raw signal that build the 2 DCOs. I don’t think you can totally get rid of that even with calibration because at 3.18 I’m doing something that is totally impossible with a stock Poly61: have both DCO off. (notes are held as you can see so that’s why you get the bleeding). On a stock Poly61 you always have DCO1 on so you won’t hear that bleed. Actually there was a bug that I reported to Bob who corrected it: when turning off DCO2 you would still here its fundamental signal in the background, quite audibly. Bob told me it was because he forgot to include an “off” signal that shuts DCO2 completely down, whereas he was simply muting the different analog signals of DCO2. He told me Korg must have been aware of the issue and that’s why they introduced that “off” signal. Probably they didn’t bother with DCO1 because as said you can never turn it off normally. So in use it’s not a problem because you’ll never have both DCO off, you can’t get the filter used as a third oscillator when auto oscillating, it’s nasty.
@tonymcadam8362
@tonymcadam8362 Ай бұрын
@@ohm_studi_ohm Ah! So given the mute on DCO2 when off, and DCO1 isn't, with no keys are playing, that noise isn't there? If so - good to know! Given the P61 design, obviously the filter isn't meant to be played. Thanks for getting back to me.
@ohm_studi_ohm
@ohm_studi_ohm Ай бұрын
With no keys pressed there is no noise. The pitch of the noise follows tracking so this is definitely no RFI.

At around 0:15 is the sustain control completely off or up slightly? It looks like its down all or most of the way but there is a lot of tail end to those notes you played after releasing the key.

@@McPherson123you will still get a small release for the strings but there is a big difference between leftmost and rightmost fader position. You can hear the difference at around 4.30. I had one of these in the mid 1980s, bought it in a 2nd hand shop in Prestatyn, North Wales, got it repaired by an electronics wizard in Wrexham, then I sold it to a guy in Canada in the early 1990s. I think it took 3 months to get to him. Never heard from him again, so I hope he got it!

In the UK, it was a kit made by an electronics mag, one famous user was "New Order" or "Joy Division" the original name, it was designed by Tim Orr who formed EMS Music, I built the kit, and to my amazement it worked the first time, and still does today.

Simply added a CD4024 and used the -1 and -2 octaves outputs and rerouted them to the noise pot via a 3 position switch, which allows for level control of the sub. But of course drawback is that you either get Sub Osc or Noise generator.

@ohm_studi_ohm
@ohm_studi_ohm 2 ай бұрын
Thanks. There are many BBD delays out there but not many I can think of that so both spring reverb and BBD delay, and in most case they are the same design rebranded. As far as spring reverb go this unit is not the best sounding unit but since it’s driven by the delay output it sounds great and quite unique. Of course you could mimic the sound by using 2 dedicated units, a delay and spring reverb. There is only one output on the unit and it’s mono. I’d actually like to find another unit to make a stereo one.
