Hey bro, wow we are like the same age and both ride a 54 midnight special. I kept it 650b and kept the steel fork but swapped the wheels and brakes to Nobl and Paul with Panaracer 45 tires. I am also a local street/alley rider and explore all kinds of routes through my city. It's America so everything is on a grid and the vehicles are bigger but there's still lots to find! I also ride a lot of gravel because there's so much of it here, very different from yours so it's cool to see and compare. Thanks for your experience, would love to ride Cebu some day. 😊

for Mechanical brakes you can try Tektro MD-C550. GRXR400 are much cheeper but 2x10 and with easy enough gearing.
@carlovillarica8 күн бұрын
Yup I've been eyeing the MD-c550 as well for budget builds. The GRX R400 is definitely a good choice, but still significantly more expensive then some of the china options out there
@scrumartist9 күн бұрын
interesting format for the surly going 650b will reduce stand over height a bit without affecting the other properties (reach etc.), maybe that few cm loss will make your traffic wait experience more bearable haha
@carlovillarica8 күн бұрын
haha it definitely will! But I also feel like it'll make the bike snappier (At least from my previous experience with 650b) so more fun... hopefully haha

value for money would be flat bar bikes , drop bar components are overrated for leisure cycling.
@carlovillarica8 күн бұрын
That is one of my frustrations. The flat bar components are so much cheaper, but I am a drop bar rider at heart. So I'm looking at drop bar options

I've used a Kocevlo carbon gravel fork once in my Disc Trucker. I do recommend it! Not only it's light, but It's sturdy enough. Though I decided to go back to using my original steel Surly fork, since it's the same color as my frame (pea lime soup).

I intentionally stop riding my bike for a period of time. To give my body time to recover. Time to do other activities. When it's time to start riding again, I feel excited and motivated. So it's okay to stop riding, for awhile.

I have an MTB and an RB, and I just did not want to use them anymore. Then my wife said, I should just get a new bike, so I pulled the trigger on a gravel bike. And just like that, balik ulit sa pagiging active sa bike.

You're on the right track in being an ambassador of goodwill in the cycling community, when ever I go abroad, bike shops are always on my agenda. The information I get by just asking can sometimes be overwhelming. (Ive been biking since my teens up till now and still need to update myself all the time on new products). My point is that these guys always share tons of information, just for us to learn and update on what we know. If they can do it, so do we. Encouragement is a lot better than discouragement. Never fail to educate and raise interest on getting healthy and having fun outdoors. It always starts with a strong, sturdy and realiable bike. Great video.

Great video! When new people visited the shop I used to work in, we liked to ask them how we could make their cycling experience as enjoyable as possible. To dive deeper, we might ask if there were specific aspects of cycling they were excited about or unsure of. We also inquired about any goals they had in mind, such as improving fitness, commuting efficiently, or exploring new trails. Sometimes we asked if there was anything that could enhance their comfort or confidence, like certain equipment or accessories. We asked these questions to truly understand each person's needs and aspirations. It helped us personalize recommendations, address any concerns, and ensure they felt confident and excited about starting their cycling journey. Another fun thing we did with new or potential customers was to invite them to a race watch party at the shop. Letting potential cyclists experience the camaraderie within our community firsthand is a powerful way to grow our sport.
