You are very welcome! I put a link in the description to the containers (Energy Flasks). Let me know if you have any problems. Regarding shelf life, I honestly don't know! I store the flasks in the fridge and typically use them within two weeks of blending each batch. Never had any issues.

Thanks for the video, very helpful. Had a few questions as I have tried this. First is, how much caffeine do you use in the batch? Second is, do you store these in your fridge with the ability to pull out as needed, or do you only make them right before use. Mine seemed to clump up in the fridge, might have been a mistake in fully dissolving the malto though.
@MorganBrown23 күн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. I have a very recent video where I go over the actual nutritional content. Let me know if you want a link. I do store these in the fridge. If I blend a LOT and make a low viscosity mix, I tend not to clump. But yeah I have seen some weird separation issues when the viscosity is high. Caffeine wise I use about three scoops of Guarana per 18 ounces of gel. That's probably 300 MG of caffeine. But I consider caffeine and sodium kind of a personal choice so I don't say much about it. I have been super happy using this DIY gel both in training and races!

Wow! Yeah, I can see how that happened. I've done a couple cenotes as well and while I am glad I did them, I don't think I will go out of my way to do them again. To be honest, I am a little shocked there were two groups going on different lines. That just seems a little dangerous to begin with.
@MorganBrownАй бұрын
I like the cenotes as a change of pace. Also, the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area is pretty windy, so we typically only find 50% of the days are available for offshore diving. And even the days when the harbor is open, it can be rough -- I've had 6 offshore days in Cancun/Playa and I've puked on two of those! The cenotes are always a cool backup plan. But yeah, there is definitely a sketch factor with these cenotes. I would estimate that there were 20 divers in this cenote when I was filming. In addition to another 20 snorkelers! I don't think I will ever bring a hand-held camera into a cenote again. Speaking for myself, filming creates a significant distraction. I would wear a GoPro instead.
@soupdivesАй бұрын
@@MorganBrown HAH! I get that with the weather. We were in Cozumel and made the trek over for the same reason, and even those big taxi boats were a bit iffy. We did the Barbie Line and then to Bat Cave if memory serves. Lots of stairs. Can't remember the exact cenote name, sorry. But, I don't think you could get that many people in either of them. We were in a straight line for most of the dives. I get the GoPro thing, that's what I use and it makes it easier to keep your head on a swivel while just holding your hand as steady as possible. Which I fail to do constantly!

The original wall was sheetrock with drywall mud, plus wallpaper. I removed the wallpaper. I did not need to skim coat the original wall, but I did need to texture it. For my texture technique, I add pre-mixed joint compound to the pan and mix with a small amount of water. Then I roll the joint compound onto the wall. Does this answer your question?

did you have the nutritional facts or rough estimates of carbs and sodium per flask?
@MorganBrownАй бұрын
Unfortunately I have not been very rigorous to date. 3.5 fluid ounces is about 103 g of a substance with water density. Pretty safe to say that I squeeze 80 g of carbs into each flask. Of that 80 g I would guess I have 40 g maltodextrin, 30 g fructose, maybe 10 g sucrose from maple syrup and agave. For the sodium I basically just add enough to make the gel somewhat salty but not overpowering. I cramped at SBT GRVL, so maybe this wasn't enough? Or maybe I needed a more balanced electrolytes solution. Hopefully this answers your question at least qualitatively

18.5 g carbs per ounce of DIY gel. So I am only able to get 65 g carbs into each 3.5 ounce flask. If I eat one flask every 45 minutes, I will get 80 g of carbs per hour.

Not sure that was the call.. If you could see her feet, it would be easier to understand. As the libero, If she is on or in front of the 10ft/3meter line (when she hand set the ball) it would be illegal for a player to attack the ball while it's above the height of the net. So maybe not a late whistle, maybe waited for the ball to be attacked.

that's interesting. I like it. There's one thing I failed to mention in this video. These sheets were, by and large, nailed into the studs (1982). I tried the silca calculator for a couple of my bikes and found the suggestions 5 to 10 psi higher than I run on mixed surfaces. Also the weight balance they suggest is much higher for the front than I would expect. For road I think it is likely 40/60 F/R and they list 42/58 which seems quite aggressive to me. My combined weight varies from 125 to 130kg. Favourite tires are Gravel King standard or semi slick treads.

I enjoyed your video Morgan. I particularly liked how you listed "black swans", like the vanishing RockBros gizmo, bad indexing on the derailleur, assuming a bit tubeless tire would be okay, heat, bladder tube routing, etc. So many ways to take hits! I spend the months and weeks before an event trying to think of what can go wrong, but these weren't on my radar. Thanks for pointing them out, with humor, and congrats on finishing. The black cap probably wouldn't fit anyway. Good luck ahead.

I run my 26" bike on the rail to trails(stone dust with hard-pack gravel) and count on increasing my speed by as much as three km/h when I increase the tire pressure from 25 psi(after 2 to 3 months of biking) to 60 psi.

That is pretty consistent with what I found. 20 psi was about 5% slower than 50 psi on the smooth stuff.

The real mistake in this video is putting "gravel" and "race" together. Ugh... racing gravel just kills what gravel should be about, getting out and hitting new roads that you normally wouldn't on a road/mountain bike. "Gravel + Grand Fondo" is the winning combo...
@MorganBrown3 ай бұрын
if it makes you feel any better, my "races" are usually solo time trials, since I don't climb well. But regardless, I will always take some free speed if I can get it. The incremental gains philosophy does appeal to my nerdy side. I'm not keen at all at the "pro-ification" of gravel riding. It's getting kinda silly and all the attention will inevitably draw more rules & regulations, which kind of defeats the original idea of gravel.
@bikebudha013 ай бұрын
@@MorganBrown First off, thanks for posting the vid. Always interesting to see results of real world testing. Second, my comment was along the lines of what you say about "pro-ification" of gravel. I am old enough to remember Norba, and how 'low key' it was before they got all hot-to-trot to appease the UCI, and get into the olympics. If there was no such thing as 'pro mountain biking', moutain bike racing would be better for it. Same with gravel. I don't give 2 shits about who wins Unbound. I do give 2 shits about the event be fun and open to as many people as possible.

Is 35 as wide as your bike fits? Considered 650s with something wider? My hypothesis is that it would allow a more consistent low pressure on both surfaces (and be more comfortable and possibly faster) 🤔

I have a Canyon Grizl. It is supposed to accommodate 50 mm or larger. I would have preferred the 40 mm version of this tire (Schwalbe G-one Super RS) but it was (is?) out of stock. The Schwalbe is the fastest tire with a meaningful tread. I've been happy with it so far; will race it next Saturday.

When I tried 650b I found that at the same 35ish psi I was having good success on my terrain with on 40c 700c. They didn't ride as well at speed downhill that I attributed to the flex of the taller sidewalls? I also think that rim width has alot to do with the equation, I like a wider rim like an i28 or i30 even. Granted I am probably more concerned with comfort over speed........
@MorganBrown3 ай бұрын
yeah, when you start looking at rim/tire combos, unraveling the speed is really tricky. The rolling resistance tests are nice, but like you say, those tests don't ensure that a certain rim/tire combo will roll fast on real terrain, in real wind. From an aero perspective, I do like how these 35's mate with my Hunt Limitless wheels (I think outer rim width is 28 mm)
@livinglifeontheedge42613 ай бұрын
@@MorganBrown I think that one thing we should all agree on is that no matter what "genre" of cycling one is doing it is best to test different psi on your terrain and bike(s). It doesn't take long and pays big dividends. Stuff like that Silica site just makes people lazy and not really get them what would best suit them. The best aspect of tire pressure I have seen is how it keeps going lower and proves to be as, if not more efficient overall. Tubeless also has a hand in that.
