Wow! Yeah, I can see how that happened. I've done a couple cenotes as well and while I am glad I did them, I don't think I will go out of my way to do them again. To be honest, I am a little shocked there were two groups going on different lines. That just seems a little dangerous to begin with.

I like the cenotes as a change of pace. Also, the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area is pretty windy, so we typically only find 50% of the days are available for offshore diving. And even the days when the harbor is open, it can be rough -- I've had 6 offshore days in Cancun/Playa and I've puked on two of those! The cenotes are always a cool backup plan. But yeah, there is definitely a sketch factor with these cenotes. I would estimate that there were 20 divers in this cenote when I was filming. In addition to another 20 snorkelers! I don't think I will ever bring a hand-held camera into a cenote again. Speaking for myself, filming creates a significant distraction. I would wear a GoPro instead.

@@MorganBrown HAH! I get that with the weather. We were in Cozumel and made the trek over for the same reason, and even those big taxi boats were a bit iffy. We did the Barbie Line and then to Bat Cave if memory serves. Lots of stairs. Can't remember the exact cenote name, sorry. But, I don't think you could get that many people in either of them. We were in a straight line for most of the dives. I get the GoPro thing, that's what I use and it makes it easier to keep your head on a swivel while just holding your hand as steady as possible. Which I fail to do constantly!
