There is no ideal system but I like the Gondor system. The King's exclusive duties are to lead the military and enforce the basic laws and traditions. No lawmaking ability other than refusal to enforce laws. The legislative body is comprised of men who have protected the people or served smaller posts with dignity.

Not allowing someone to build a bridge over your house is completely compatible with libertarianism and I flatly reject the version of private property rights that stops at the highest point of your roof. In Walter Block's version of private property a helipad can be installed above your house provided the property is accessed from the side. This is absurd.

I think that the difference between Popper and the Logical Positivists is not relevant here, but what they have in common. That is probably the reason why Hoppe summarizes both under the label "Positivism", which is the doctrin according to which it is always experience that reveals something about the real world, and that everything we claim to know must be tested empirically, and that is what Hoppe is trying to criticize.

Sounds pretty unprofitable. Why not buy their failing business, set up a subscription model, and rake in the profits? Monitor only one lane with a security booth to enter the neighborhood and sell passes (cheap enough that their mother-in-law won't make them move)

Braindead objection after braindead objection. Kid in the suit saying free marketers don't mention safety enough. Bro, get it through your thick skull, the free market isn't about a set solution or number of solutions, it's about humans using their creativity to solve problems and other humans voluntarily agreeing or disagreeing. Voting with their patronage. So if the people in X area value rigidity, rigidity will probably prevail. In Y area that values getting home fastest, that's probably what will flourish. There is no limit on solutions, this isn't 2+2.

Listening to this after turning into an anarchist really brings to mind the quote: "What are presented as the strongest arguments against anarchism are descriptions of the status quo" -eminem. Especially that guy who said Block assumed people were rational. Braindead take. Politicians took trillions of dollars for war in the middle east, stole a bunch, killed millions, and all over lies. Maniacs exist, at least in the market they can be punished for their actions. Remember when the Biden admin droned a handful of children? No one even lost their job.

@@CIARUNSITE Walter writes in his book The Privatization of Roads and Highways: "Ownership of land does not consist of property rights up to the sky or down to the core of the earth; the owner cannot forbid planes from passing overhead, nor can he prohibit a bridge over his land, as long as it does not interfere with the use of his land." For more on that you can google and download his pdf paper titled, "Roads, Bridges, Sunlight and Private Property Rights” or read the chapter of his book with the same title.

19:00 is this intentional misunderstanding, or straw manning JT? this is "defund the police" level cartoonish painting of socialism. it is equal to me saying all approaches to market are the same: it is all economics, what's the difference. i dont use the S or C word (even the other C word, if i can help it). bc ideology can get in the way of solutions. i like issues, not charged terms. tho i get that this is for this audience .the first mover advantage remains powerful. it is why pfizer dominate the vac market (among other less savory tactics). i really though j+j "one & done" (then changing mind later on 'new information' business way). they are as evil as pfizer. i thought. boy did i miscall that one. gr8 lecture. -JC

we agree on so much. *a very Ltd Gvt w blind assignment of enforcement tasks (like when medical science works). random. everything w multiple quasi random checks: that is a place for hopeful msging for change in our lifetime*, & knowing business will try and infiltrate that too. always: & that is ok. the natsec corporate state. banking crime. groups collecting power. it will always hapn. but the state *_can_* use the restricted behemoth (read my book <3) to keep capital from pooling or power concentrating. no such thing is true for a series of unchained corporate behavior. it will have all of the problems you ascribe to Gvt: but *zero* infrastructure to remedy it. or even _try._ we've seen what hapns when private armies and pinkertons for private companies do not want a strike. or when independent companies get together and choose prices, then do not pay a living wage, nor invest or "innovate", instead only pocketing more cash & controlling more industries - it is neither better than Gvt, nor a solution to any of those fundamental problems. but Gvt is closer to correct. & yes, that means some system of taxes for cohesion & common good. interesting thoughts tho JT =). i have not re-visited the political philosophers in a while. -JC

gr8 lecture. but no matter what, it ends in *checks and balances:* the "anomalies" in the system is the Gvt not enforcing common wealth (usually bc business got involved somewhere and started thieving things!). social security _can be_ a ponzi scheme, for the reasons you mention. the state outlives the actors. if we are trying to deal w infinity (ideally); just keep passing the bag. feels counterintuitive, i know. yes, all the complaints of the state are true: *but even more true in unchecked business behavior. even more.* finding a way to check the checks has to be the answer. very enjoyable tho. -JC

*beautiful. touching and inspirational.* except we will never have fair markets without a force to run against them (or regulate them); thr will never be anything without safety, and thr will always be a pendulum of power that will attract the worst instincts, and has to be checked. & we have to live in the real world: which means we will never agree on the need for national security (not to the point we already face authoritarianism at home; but it can not be allowed into our lives, via those who have banded together under a conflicting values flag, from the outside either. ever try to get a ska band to rehearsal? pragmatism). & thr will always be large projects, and safety nets, that best not be handled by capital. this does feel utopian. it is that we can not control *anyone* ; and Gvt is a group of people. finally, we do not start from zero: we start from today. today. we are not starting again, to try something else, we are starting from here. to try something else. gr8 lecture JT. -JC

This was also a key argument of Hitler. He said that he takes full responsibility with his life for Germany. And he did that. He died and lead Germany in absolute utter destruction as well. Systems do not solve problems - realistic people do.

@@BeatPOWERvomPowerhof If the existance of the problem is the system itself, then changing the system would have greater chance of solving the problem. Would North Koreas situation be any different just because new leader is in power? NO The only way in which the situation of NK people will improve is when the system is changed. If an regime/system is authoratarian, then changing one leader to another doesnt change anything. The only way new authorotarian cant oppress is if the system is changed which removes the power from the hands of them. I somewhat agree that people make the changes, but if you dont change the underlying system, changing the people will have zero or very minimal effect, but changing the underlying system will have greater chances of positive change even if the guy in charge is the same.

Hoppean principles should be applied by localities first before anyone even thinks of them ever being adopted nationally or even state wide. And that goes for any principles or ideals or strategies in political things. It's how they got ahold of their current seats, and as much as many want to just throw out the seats and rugs from under them, I can't see how that can happen until the majority of local positions are already filled with, and every mandate, decree, and unreasonable and absurd restriction or regulation is repealed. Shall not be infringed means shall not be infringed. The hoppean snake must return.
