I grew up in Salishan in the 1970s. This was part of our playground. We used to call it Bummers Gulch. It wasn't until I was an adult that I found out why it was called that. In the past (long long ago) the hobos or bums would jump off the trains and go up into the gulch to camp, probably entering off Pioneer Way or Waller Road. The mine mentioned at about 2:55 is where we used to catch frogs. In the creek itself, we used to catch crawdads.

That one has been on my list to finish researching for ages. If I remember right, it was a car dealership originally and most recently Leonard Bros. Van & Storage. Crazy to see all that graff, saw a lot of names I haven't seen in like 10 years. Kefallinos owns it now; of course! Great video as always.

Wow... This really brings back some memories for real. Every person who went there had a home classroom. Mine was room 315. Ms. Pinkard and Ms. Johnson were my homeroom teahers. Mrs. Wolf was the Media/Auditorium teacher. And for a short period of time; Mrs. Wallace was one of the gym teachers. She was the gym teacher from Lingemann Elementary. She taught 6th grade gym class at Foch. She left Foch to go to teach somewhere else. And who can forget the Male Hall Monitor...Man he had that long skinny wooden stick board pointer. He would tear your legs up if he caught you running in the hallways trying to get to class before the late bell rang....haha. Mr. Harris (Mr. Hill??) caught me quite a few times. It was hard trying to get to your class especially if some of the classes were in the opposite end of the hallway or if some of the classes were on different floors from each other. I also remember running indoor track when it became too cold to run track outside. My favorite class by far was Swimming. For me it was the last class of the day...but the downside of that was if you had swim class during the winter. Unfortunately I didn't get to graduate from Foch...My Stepdad passed away while I was in the seventh grade. And my family and I ended up moving away from Detroit that year in 1977. It was also Gang Central. The school was surrounded by various Gang members from different rival gangs. There were the Errol Flynns...The Girl Errol Flynns..The Baby Errols...The BK's...The Coney Only...and The Murphy Boys just to name a few. Despite it all....for those who didn't get caught up with the gangs...and or ended up dropping out...or got pregnant... you were able to get a good education from there. Yup...Those were Fun times...Fun times indeed

So many floors to explore... so many documents, flyers and signs... so many hours of work and manufacturing, business and learning... I love exploring these types of locations. Thank you for this. Melancholy, always, and I wouldn't forget the plans they made, and the restorations they never finished. Plans mean nothing if you don't act on them.
