It would be that high since these pistons in a JD 420 are very small compared to a JD A which are about 5-1/2” diameter.

Since I have a GE Vortalex fan from the 1950’s, I put some John Deere corn head grease inside the oscillator box last spring, so far there hasn’t been a single issue with that. The front bearing of course gets Zoom Spout turbine oil.

I imagine these hit and miss engines are fairly efficient since they don’t use all that much fuel. Btw, do you still collect vintage fans and small appliances? Just wondering since I’ve been a longtime viewer since about 2010 or so.
@1944johndeerel4 ай бұрын
At shows they will run long durations on very little fuel however under load they will fire more often and burn more fuel. I slowed down on some of the other hobbies sometimes I pick up an old fan or motor but I don't go actively looking anymore
@seana8064 ай бұрын
@@1944johndeerel I’ve been slowing down myself a little over the past year or so. Not that I’ve lost interest, just been busy with life along with thinning out some of my collection of various appliances. Picked up a rare (quite rare) 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer dryer set in turquoise back in 2020, been gradually fixing things here and there on it but has been out of service due to timer issues. Someone has a timer for it somewhere on a site I am on, just has to be found. That’s one thing for sure I am never going to get rid of due to it’s rarity. Have a few vintage fans as well, but mainly use them for their intended purpose since I don’t feel like having them collect dust on the shelf.

Picked this same beauty at an estate sale yesterday! Heavy motor, took the wind out me taking it to my car. Mine came with no pulley but on a since slide base with a crank on the side the slide the motor in and out. I was stoked when I saw that! Even though its a huge motor for being 1/2HP and something a little too big for my taste, its got that cool shape and the slide base, and for $5, It was a steal!

I wonder if you were running a thermostat in it. I have one of these I took the thermostat out of it. Temperature was about 140F without the thermo . I think that’s actually too low I’m going to try to find a thermostat for mine these are awesome mine goes in 1966 Dodge Travco Class A Motorhome
@1944johndeerel6 ай бұрын
I have no idea if it had a thermostat or not to be honest. I never had it apart. At one time I had 3 of these units all the same.. but i don't have any of them left anymore

Crack all the fuel nozzle line nuts and the bleeder screws on the fuel filter housing and injection pump . Pressurize inlet of fuel lift pump to 20lbs. pressure . Tighten fuel filter housing bleed screws , injection pump bleed screw and fuel line nuts after fuel appears . Start engine .

I’m just asking because I do not know, but would you not have to elevate both drive wheels to make an accurate adjustment?
@1944johndeerel8 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. if you make the adjustment jacked up or wheels on the ground and when your done it sits there and stays put it must have been done correctly

By causing the belt to ride higher or lower in the pulley, it has the effect of making the belt run on a bigger or smaller pulley. It's a genius invention because it is so simple and yet it allows for a huge variety of gear ratios.

I just dragged a similar 74 or 75 H14 home recently, hydro with the 14 HP OHV version of that Tecumseh. Sat for years, rebuilt the carb and got it running fairly decent. Electrical on it is a mess though. They had a toggle switch rigged up to kill it since the original ignition was trashed, and right now I just jump the starter to fire it up. Gonna attempt to rig up a push button starter, and I’m highly doubtful the charging system will work..

I just bought a 1985 John Deere 210 in Ohio. The tractor is in surprisingly good shape but I would love to find a set of original wheel weights to help with snow plowing. Any suggestions where I might be able to find a pair? I'm new to the world of JD.

That's a nice 420 you got there. I know the video is older, but a tip for your muffler is if you turned it around the rain cap wont get torn off by a tree limb. It will instead just get pushed closed for a moment. We did that with my grandpa's 420.

very nice job, where did you get the steering wheel?
@1944johndeerel Жыл бұрын
Used off ebay. It's off a different brand tractor looks pretty much identical to what was on the bolens however I discovered the shaft size on the bolens was larger than the bore of this steering wheel so I had to drill it out. Came out nice works good again
