Oh yeah the price for Saab performance is things like this. One of value based “if gonna do water pump” on any 9-3 that’s 100k miles is go ahead with balance chain tensioner, chain guides (plastic arms keep timing chain right) replacing cause if you do then ready for next 100k hopefully just regular maintenance . Yes respect to mechanics who do things right cause it ain’t easy. Labor runs $160 hr round my area but be glad don’t own German v8 with multiple timing chains, tension guides etc that’s why see soooo many for sale with multiple owners. Maintenance.

My exhaust downpipe nuts are rusted to hell and need to be cut off which introduces other problems with the cat. Can you really do this without removing the downpipe and cat?

I’m about to do this on my 9-5. Are the cv axles shafts themselves that you replace the same size for both sides?

This is ridiculous. On my Jetta it's literally 4 screws in the outside of the wiper cowl and off comes the cover to replace the filter. This design is absolutely asinine. I assume that's why it appear my filter is an original plastic SAAB one that I'd genuinely believe if as old as the car

I have a clue why you're taking the turbo apart when you're supposed to be doing a water pump you don't have to take anything off of the turbo to do the water pump I've done several of them

There iis a drain valve on the water pump, before you remove the big pipe. It was on autoautopsy

It is so ridiculous that this is what you have to go through to change a fricking water pump. I'm having second thoughts on Saab engineering.

When I did this I didn't remove all that, lol. My special tool looks nothing like that one. When I removed the bolts I glued a super magnet inside a deep 10mm socket. I didn't waste time getting magnetic bolts 🤨 I already had the magnet. 😊

Remember to let the window pass through the rubber silicone (window guide?) channel. My went outside and is scratching towards the triangular plastic at the side mirror. I will reopen and fix it today.

Too bad that Axle is of POOR quality . Rebuilding (clean /grease/ reboot) the original axle is FAR better AWARE?? that the outer CV joint is designed to be separated (C CLIP) to make servicing of it painless. NO need to remove the axle.

Great video and very useful comments - thank you Saabers! Just wrapped up the passenger side and also swapped the speaker at the same time. I lubed up the rails with silicon lube spray and realized I meant to use spray grease- hoping it’s a nonissue, time will tell but I’ll test the difference on the driver side. Trim tools in hand and pulling the top window trim from the front to the back is the way to go. Also, I did not remove the weather stripping and was fine with access. Bonus is to swap the courtesy light out at same time - mine crumbled.
