A well made presentation. Your points are valid. I just prefer other SAKs that are in my pocket or in reach and I have a Fresnel lens in my wallet. When I carry a SD classic (alox) it goes on a dog tag chain attached with a small carabiner. The problem with starting a fire with the magnifying glass of the card is clear. It is too small for that and wont collect enough light. Not your fault. It could serve for better view when removing splinters. I contemplated buying a swiss card and eventually decided against it as it does not add enough value to my setup. I wish you much fun with yours though.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the clarification on the lens. I was just trying to find a use case for it for me. I can see of course the merits of carrying other small SAKs (that's why I have them) and in terms of weight I don't think there's anything lighter than a SD Classic Alox. So good choice there.

I have a SwissCard Quatro, it has been living in my wallets since 2001. It has always passed through airport security, because sometimes i forget that it is there. Now i bought a pair of spare SwissCard scissors to keep it company.

The Quattro is great but the scissors is a shame. But in general the cards' scissors make for great EDC standalone scissors definitely. You can use heat shrink tubing to keep the scissor blades together.

Even though it looks really amateur for you to start and end you video dodging your mic and squeezing around your table, the music makes it seem intentional, and somehow professional in a comical way. Nicely done, and best wishes when you decide to kick the habbit

As much as you say you need a toothpick, you should check out some more durable, "fancy" ones, and then carry a tweezer in your victorinox. Just a thought...

All the fancy ones are made of metal and too pointy. I really like that the Victorinox one doesn't come to a sharp point and has some flex to it.

For your tech loadout, Why didn't you put your external drive in the outer pocket?
@AboutThings_byTarif

I tend to keep that pocket for things I use more often than I do the external drive. Also I think it might be a bit big for it if everything is loaded out since that puts pressure on the pocket. I'll give it a try and let you know.

I love the gen 4 rovyvon a8 with its bigger button and for its versatility. I use the uv light to discover scorpions and charge my glow-in-the-dark stuff. The only downside is that it is too small and light. I am always afraid to lose it. I keep it attached to my 58mm victorinox manager. They pair up perfectly, complementing each other in usefulness. The added weight and lenght of the victorinox make me much more confident holding the light, and the clip on the light keeps the knife from slipping out of my pocket and getting lost. A winning combination for me.
@calebrunne
@calebrunne Күн бұрын
Also, I use the knife as a first aid and grooming tool mostly, and the light works for that too. For example, looking for a splinter, checking pupil response in moonlight mode, and skin fungus reflects white with uv light.

Sounds like a great setup. I love the Manager. And I know what you mean about fear of losing it. I have a couple of A1s in different places around the house and they disappear often. How do you attach them so that you're able to use both at the same time as you described?
@calebrunne
@calebrunne Күн бұрын
@@AboutThings_byTarif I put the smaller spit ring that comes with it on the a8 and then attach it to the split ring on the victorinox. If you orient it right, the magnetic clip will attach to the victorinox when they fold together. I hope that makes sense. I attach the clip so that when it is clipped in my pocket the bezel is up and the victorinox hangs inside my pocket out of the way of anything else I may have in there. It is a joy to have so much utility, so light I can carry it no matter what I am wearing!

I love my manager, which has a pen and tweezers. I like to carry a rovyvon a8 attached to it which gives it the ability to hang vertically from the corner of my pocket by the clip. I am always tempted by the swiss card lite and you have a compelling case, but I just love the form factor of the manager with its ergonomics. I would definitely consider carrying the swisscard for flying. Thanks for the video, a great start!

I really like the Manager and as you said the card can be a great companion for travel. It's not cheap but it makes a nice gift in my experience I've given a couple away when people I love are wowed by it. For travel consider the nail care version which has a file instead of a blade.

Thanks for this video. I'll take a better look at these cards thanks to you. I had a Classic… but it was confiscated at the airport in Egypt… because it's a very dangerous weapon! 😱 So another benefit of the card is that you can remove the blade. I took it mainly for the scissors. Now, brutally honest feedback about your video 😉 First, what you say (topics, order, arguments), the way you say it and the general quality of the video are great. So these are just minor details for small improvements… and it's only my thoughts, I'm not pretending to know better. OK, you're sharing your point of view, based on your experience. When doing such videos, I think it's better to try to be generic. Share/start with your experience but then generalizing. For example: “it's more practical because you don't have your keys on the card” or “you've your wallet always with you”. It's actually the complete opposite for me. I don't have anything attached to the knife and I've never my minimalist wallet on me (never, always in my backpack or jacket). The knife can remain in your jeans pocket all the time (to be honest, I keep it in my backpack too 😂). And about the magnifying glass. I don't care whether you use it or not, I only care about is it a good one and practical to use? Great that you said you didn't manage to make fire with it, pointing out that you don't really know how to do it properly.
@AboutThings_byTarif

Definitely appreciate the honest feedback here and will take into consideration for future videos. Sharing my honest first person experience though is a conscious choice that I'm aware of and that not everything I say or do would resonate with everyone but it shines a light on how an item is useful for me. I think there are plenty of people out there doing a great job at generic reviews but I might suck at those. All that being said, I've only been doing this for a few weeks and that was my very first video so I'd love to get your (still brutally) honest feedback on the recent ones as well. Thanks a lot for taking the time to write the comment and I'm very happy you liked the video.

@@AboutThings_byTarif To be clear. Sharing your personal experience is a great choice, and it definitely communicates credibility. AFAIU it seems there are quite a few/lot of people who are not able to see beyond what's being said. So thinking out loud… Isn't better to start with general/non subjective arguments, and then enliven it with your personal experience? Rather than starting with your personal experience.

Nice video, I never took the swiss card very seriously in the past, but you got me thinking. I only carry a minimalist wallet only big enough for a couple credit cards and my ID. The swiss card would not fit. I personally carry the Rambler daily and have thought about upgrading to the midnight manager. I think the midnight manager is the real comparison not the SD classic. Price being almost the same between the MM and the SC. It comes down to form factor and a "regular" small SAK with a pocket clip would work much better.

It's fun to find someone who carries some of the same things I do! First things first, love love love the Victorinox Swiss Card Lite, Roxon KS2 Elite, Rovyvon A8 and Fisher Space Pen! I have a tool kit at home, tools in my car primarily designed for emergencies, an EDC tool pouch in my Messenger and then my pockets carry. For pockets carry, I first try to limit it to things I may need at a moment's notice. Take pliers for example. I have pliers at home, in my car and in my Messenger bag. I never need pliers so quickly that I don't have time to retrieve one of those. So I don't carry pliers on my person. Second, I try to limit pockets carry to things I need relatively frequently. Something that I would travel 5 minutes back home to get if I forgot it. Here is my pockets carry priority list. 1) Flashlight. If you can't see, nothing else matters (Rovyvon A8). 2) Charging cable (LeverGear on my keychain) 3) one handed folder with locking blade clipped for quick access (Civivi Sendy - includes toothpick and tweezers 4) pen and paper (A7 in my wallet with Zebra F301 Compact), 5) scissors and screwdriver (I built a custom Victorinox Companion adding a Cybertool layer. Sometimes I just carry the Westcott titanium sewing scissors with a ratchet and Steinwhale bits in a dyneema pouch) 6) Chapstick (for lips and emergency fire starting), 7) small meds container on my keychain, 8) Trouble Kit (I have a bigger 5x3.5" one with 30+ items and a smaller mini-Altoids tin with 12 items or so), 9) basic titanium pry bar with bottle opener and hex drive, and 10) refillable butane lighter. Normally, I always have 1-7 on me plus the smaller trouble kit. The rest if I have room.

I like these SwissCards. In a pinch can use the magnifier if forgotten reading glasses. Only thing don’t care about the Lite is the missing nail file but there is usually one more thing we’d like. Why is your audio so much better in the Swiss card video ?? If you need a lapel mic, use any old Android phone (even 10+ yrs with a headphone jack), a $10 Boya lapel mic and the free ASR Voice Recorder by NLL Apps 👍 Even sitting the phone upside down in your breast pocket can work to record if you limit your movement. Very good but not the same as the ones we're used to. I agree on the blades but they're easy to keep sharp, even the tiny ones. You can probably tell I'm a fan 🙂

@@AboutThings_byTarif I don't know what they would call "large", the marketing w@nk calls it a "metal file". It's about the size of the wood saw next to it. I used it on what I think is mild steel - no noticeable wear. By the way, I just confirmed tonight, the wood saw saws wood. Works about as well as the metal file. I've yet to inspect it for wear, but I don't think there will be much. Obviously not as effective as a big dedicated wood saw, but for a pocket multitool the fact that it cuts real wood (none of that pressed and glued sh!t) at all is quite impressive, much more si when you consider how well it performs. I completely understand why you're a fan. Same reason I am. Most of us are used to being taken for a ride by multitool marketing. They promise a tool that does something, but it never _really_ does it all that well. These Victorinox ones on the other hand are actually genuinely competent. Not amazing at a particular task, but always more than adequate, and adequate is perfect when the alternative is something you'll just leave home. I did find something these scissors aren't good at - posh paracord. Survivorcord XT, to be precise. They'll cut it, but it's more like a rodent slowly gnawing through rather than scissors cutting cleanly. Like I said, never "perfect", but always more than adequate, which is more than I can say for the competition. These probably _are_ the best scissors in that form factor.

Definitely agree with everything you said. I've tried their saw before and it's actually pretty good for the size. The scissors are probably the one tool that I'd go to even if I have dedicated scissors, haven't had any trouble with them so far and they're great with regular 550 paracord. As for the file. By "large" I mean full sized in a 91mm compared to the short and dinky file you'd find on any 58mm tool like the Classic SD, which I think is meant for nails vs. anything else.

I have 2 pens. My fountain pen is a black Diamond 580 ALR, and it's mated with a Uniball Power Tank and a Lami Safari pencil. I've found that's all I need.

Sounds great and definitely enough. Didn't know Lamy made a Safari pencil. I guess I'll go check that out 🙂

I love the Champ. Was my very first Victorinox. The Swiss Card is perfect for people who aren't used to carrying a multitool. My wife loves it too. Thanks for the comment and taking the time to watch.

I agree. If you mean compared to a multitool, the way I look at it is that a multitool with a good knife has taken care of all my knife needs in the past so I never found myself in a situation where I thought I wish I had a standalone knife. But that's 100% my situation and life, I can totally imagine how it's a must for a lot of other people.

An EDC pen review without the ridiculously overpriced Big Idea design pens. I love it for that alone. I basically have the same three pen set-up in ballpoint and fountain. An office pen with the Pilot Metropolitan and Retro Tornado, an all around pen with the Lamy Al-Star and the Rotring 600, and a pocket pen with the Kaweco Sport and Space Pen bullet.

I know! Part of my point was that you don't need a $100 titanium pen to have a great EDC pen experience. That sounds like a great collection you got there. I've been wanting to try the Koweco Sport for some time now, will probably go for the ballpoint at some point later this year.
